Westmeria Counselling Services

Westmeria Counselling Services We were established in 2003 to help people in crisis, or just in need of support, with an emphasis on depression.

There are times when we all need a little help…. We are primarily a voluntary organisation, serving the local community. We were established in 2003 to help people in crisis, or just in need of support, with a particular emphasis on those suffering from depression. It is our aim to reverse the trend of reliance on anti-depressants. Our professional, qualified counsellors offer counselling on a don

ation basis, helping to make such a vital service both affordable and accessible. Each session lasts for 50 minutes and there is an upper limit of 24 sessions. We also offer mental health support in the work-place, by offering workshops and employee counselling to companies.

The men who seem “fine” are often the ones struggling most.

This Men’s Health Week, let’s remind men that they don’t have to carry everything alone. A conversation, a check-in, or asking for help could change everything.

We're proud to be partnering with Bromley Borough Foodbank to provide free counselling support for food bank clients across Bromley.

Behind every food bank visit is a personal story. Many people facing financial hardship are also coping with stress, anxiety, grief, illness or other life-changing challenges.

Thanks to funding from Bromley Council's Innovation Fund, we're helping ensure local people can access emotional support when they need it most.

A lot of people feel this way.

They're drawn to listening. To supporting others through difficult moments. To the kind of work that actually means something.

But they talk themselves out of it, because they don't have the right qualifications yet, or they're not sure where counselling training even begins.

At Westmeria Counselling College, we offer a clear pathway in.
Our CPCAB courses starting September 2026 begin with the foundations and take you as far as you want to go:

👉 Level 2 Counselling Skills - the starting point
👉 Level 3 Counselling Studies - deepening theory and self-awareness
👉 Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling - training for qualified practice

No previous experience needed at Level 2. Just a genuine desire to learn.

Too many men suffer in silence because they’ve been taught they should “just get on with it.”

This Men’s Health Week, we’re encouraging honest conversations around mental health, vulnerability, and asking for support when it’s needed.

Struggling doesn’t make you weak. Speaking up doesn’t make you less of a man. Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is let someone know you’re not okay.

No one should feel they have to carry everything alone.

“You don’t have to be falling apart to be struggling.”

Mental health challenges are often quieter than people expect. They can show up as withdrawal, exhaustion, irritability, overthinking, or simply not feeling like yourself anymore.

We’re proud to have recently been featured in Psychologies Magazine, with Sue Doughty sharing expert insight on the subtle signs that your mental health may need attention and support.

An important reminder that recognising the signs early matters.

Men and counselling - why is it still such a difficult step to take?

Research shows men are less likely to seek support for their mental health, often waiting until things feel overwhelming before reaching out.

It’s not because men don’t care. It’s often because of what they’ve been taught and that's to stay strong, handle things alone, and keep emotions in check.

But struggling in silence comes at a cost.

Counselling isn’t about weakness or having all the answers.
It’s simply a space to talk, reflect, and not carry everything on your own.

If you’ve been thinking about reaching out, this is your reminder: You don’t have to do it alone 💙

We're so excited to be holding our very first Westmeria Mental Health Summit and we couldn't be more proud of the speakers joining us 💙

One of those speakers is Dr Claire Oakeley, who began her journey right here with the Westmeria team. Since then, Claire has developed specialist expertise in perinatal mental health, completing a doctorate in Existential Therapy and a Masters in Integrative Counselling.

Claire will be speaking on postnatal anxiety - an area she has explored extensively through her doctoral research and her clinical work with mothers. She has presented her work on postnatal anxiety to perinatal mental health teams and specialist counselling organisations, contributing to greater understanding of women’s lived experiences after birth.

Having Claire on stage at our very first Summit feels incredibly special. We can't wait. 🌸

The Summit is a one-day event for therapists, trainees and mental health professionals, a meaningful day of learning, connection and CPD.

"I didn't know I was depressed, it's only when I look back that I can see it now."

Steve had been carrying more than most for a long time. But like so many men, his response was simply to get on with it - until one day, he couldn't anymore.

Counselling changed his life so profoundly that he went on to train as a counsellor himself. Now he helps others find the same relief he once thought was out of reach.

His story is honest, moving, and a reminder that asking for help isn't weakness - it's courage.

You might not even notice it happening.

A thought pops into your mind that says

“I’m not good enough.”

Then another...

“This is going to go wrong.”

Before long, your mood shifts. Your body feels tense. You start avoiding things or overthinking everything.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) helps you slow that process down.

It helps you notice the link between what you think, how you feel, and what you do next.

And more importantly, it shows you that those patterns aren’t fixed.

With the right support, you can begin to:

✨ question unhelpful thoughts
✨ respond differently to situations
✨ feel more in control again

You don’t have to believe every thought you have.

And you don’t have to figure it out alone. 💛
