Last week members of Cobalt Medical Charity’s senior leadership team took a road trip to visit some of their CT radiography teams delivering the longest running Lung Cancer Screening Programme in the UK.
This collaboration with Manchester NHS Foundation Trust and Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance (delivered in partnership with NHS nursing staff) aims to detect more instances of cancer at earlier stages 1 and 2, when treatment is likely to be more effective, than 3 and 4.
To deliver the service we hire one of the support units from another great local charity, Hope for Tomorrow, therefore supporting their wider work with cancer patients.
Screening for lung cancer this way, almost triples the chances of detection. The charity supports four lung cancer screening programmes with specialist CT imaging across the UK. The screening services are delivered within the heart of communities, in supermarket and stadium car parks for example, to enable patients to attend their appointments more easily and close to their home.
Providing CT services for lung cancer screening is just one of the amazing ways that Cobalt supports the NHS every single day.
