Jen Bircher has received a Chief Nursing Officer award for her work as an Activity Co-ordinator on our Care of the Elderly wards.

Whether taking patients outside for fresh air, supporting them to enjoy music, facilitating conversation, or helping them regain confidence through small independence building tasks, she restores dignity, autonomy and joy to people who often feel disoriented or isolated in hospital.

Jen embodies the NHS values every day. Her dedication, empathy, and innovation have made a profound difference to patients, families, and staff. Congratulations Jen on your CNO award 💙

🎉 Happy 1st Birthday to the Generation Study! 🎉

Today we’re celebrating one year since recruitment opened in Gloucestershire.

Since August 2025:
🧬 1,455 families have consented to take part in the study
👶 1,172 babies have had blood samples sent for genome sequencing,
🔍 Helping to test for more than 200 rare genetic conditions

A huge thank you to every family who has signed up so far, and to everyone who has taken the time to consider participation. We’re also incredibly grateful to the colleagues and staff who have supported the study and helped us reach this important milestone.

Enrolment is open for a limited time. If you're expecting a baby and would like to take part, remember that consent must be completed before your baby is born.

💙 Some patients receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) may now be offered appointments in our Mobile Cancer Care Unit (MCCU) instead of Avening Ward at Cheltenham General Hospital.

Supported by national cancer charity Hope for Tomorrow, the MCCU provides the same high-quality care from our expert oncology teams in a welcoming environment. For many patients, it can also mean easier parking, shorter walking distances and more convenient access for family members and carers.

The unit helps us ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
