KEEP THIS SYNTHETIC SUBSTANCE OUT OF OUR BREAD!!

This is a petition against the government’s planning to put folic acid in all bread and cakes etc. Folic acid is not the natural folate that our bodies need and which helps to protect the unborn from neural tube defects like spina bifida. Folic acid is synthetic and is not without safety concerns, especially for those who do not process it well and fail to transform it appropriately into folate. The unprocessed folic acid can remain in the body and cause some serious problems, according to research. And none of us knows if we can process the folic acid well or not. It is a dangerous money-saving choice not to add natural folate to bread. Please sign.

We call on the Government to stop the fortification of flour with synthetic folic acid. Folic acid is a medicine not a food. We believe it is unethical to mass medicate the entire population without their knowledge or consent in the hope that a minority group of people might see a benefit.

What are you doing this weekend to support your health and wellbeing?
It’s overcast, a bit windy and due to rain, or even storm, today, so I’m giving the garden a miss, however much I’d like to get on with things out there. Various of my newly planted and sprouted bean seeds have been pulled up and left on the soil by who knows who or what. I had to replant more. And then I looked out at my central lawn a moment ago and saw a host of wood pigeons congregating to one side. Who can say why? And then they flew up on to the garage roof in a flock and are continuing to congregate there. (There were more than this photo shows.) I’m not blaming the pigeons for my veggie depredations but it struck me that the motivations of beings are often a mystery. Which is probably a good thing. No classification, no rumination. Just seeing. A dualistic world is far too confusing.
