Men’s Health Matters – Especially When It Comes to Your Eyes 👁️

This Men's Health Week, we want to highlight how important early action and regular check-ups can be.

Men are statistically less likely to attend regular exams than women.

But your vision isn’t something to ignore. Early action can make all the difference. We encourage everyone to book an appointment as soon as they have a concern.

At Eye Deal, we offer two types of appointments to help:

🔍 Comprehensive Eye Tests
These assess your vision and overall eye health.
– Includes an advanced OCT scan

🩺 Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS)
Free for anyone registered with a GP in East Kent, this service is ideal for:
– Sore, red, itchy, or watery eyes
– Sudden visual changes
– Irritation or discomfort

Our friendly and expert team is here to help. If you’re unsure which type of appointment you need, just give us a call – we’ll talk it through with you and make sure you get the care you need.

We allow up to 45 minutes for an Eye Deal eye examination, so what can you expect?

Our thorough examination covers two key aspects: your eye health and your vision.

👁️ Eye Health Check:

Our team selects specific tests tailored to your unique needs.

- First up, the Auto-Refractor, where you’ll look at a distant image (like a hot air balloon) to estimate your prescription.
- The Non-Contact Tonometer, a gentle puff of air into your eyes to check eye pressure.
- The Digital Retinal Photography captures a detailed image of your eyes with a quick flash, helping us assess overall eye health.
- The Visual Field Test allows us to examine your field of view.

No need to worry about discomfort; these tests are painless and take just a few minutes.

They play a crucial role in detecting issues like dry eyes, cataracts, glaucoma, and even certain general health conditions like diabetes.

We also include an OCT scan in all our eye test appointments. This advanced scan provides an even more detailed view of your eye, helping us spot any underlying health conditions.

👓 Vision Check:

For most people, we use the familiar letter chart, asking you to read down the letters as they get smaller to assess your vision and fine-tune your prescription.

We've also got alternative charts and tools for children, and others who may need them.

June is Cataract Awareness Month - let's talk about exactly what they are, and what we can do to help.

A cataract is simply a clouding of the lens inside your eye. It's a normal part of getting older, and it's incredibly common - most of us will develop one to some degree if we live long enough.

The thing to know is that cataracts usually develop slowly. You might notice colours looking a little duller, lights seeming a bit glarey at night, or a general sense that your vision isn't as crisp as it used to be, even with your current glasses.

None of that is cause for panic. It's just worth knowing what to look out for.

A routine eye test is exactly where cataracts get picked up - often before you've really noticed anything yourself. We'll keep an eye on things over time and talk you through everything clearly, with no rush.

So if you're already due an eye test, that's all it takes - we'll check as part of your usual appointment.

And if you've noticed any changes and you're at all concerned, you don't need to wait for a reminder. You're very welcome to book in whenever suits you.
