One of the questions I get asked is… “Why do you leave the room during a Bowen session?”
It’s probably one of the things that makes Bowen Therapy feel so different from many other hands-on therapies. During a session, I make a series of gentle Bowen moves and then pause for a few minutes before continuing.
Those pauses aren’t me having a cup of peppermint tea. They’re an important part of the treatment.
The pauses are one of the most important parts of Bowen Therapy. They give the body time to slow down, process the gentle input it has received, and encourage the parasympathetic nervous system — our body's natural rest, restore and repair response — to do what it does best.
It’s often during those quiet pauses that people notice themselves relaxing deeply… and quite a few people even drift off to sleep!
I think in a world where we’re always rushing from one thing to the next, there’s something quite special about giving the body permission to slow down for a while. 🤍
