Found Outdoors CIC

Found Outdoors CIC Rewilding project set in 54 acres of Wiltshire woodland and meadows. Found Outdoors is an outdoor education project founded by us, Fiona and Rich Cassidy.

We focus on education, art, nature recovery, art and wellbeing, helping people of all ages (re)connect with the natural world 🌳🍃 In 2020 we packed in our jobs and bought 54 acres of woodland and meadows to help children and adults reconnect with nature through forest school, site visits, educational days and events. We work with individuals, schools, charities, universities and many other organisa

tions. VISITING FOUND OUTDOORS: For visits and what we're currently up to please see our website. In the near future we hope to host talks, film nights, multi day residentials and much more.

We’ve been running butterfly transects for the first time this year!

It’s been a real eye opener to learn about the species and start to understand another aspect of our site.

We use iRecordbutterflies app to record our sightings. It’s been a huge year for blues with literally dozens of common blue in our bottom field amongst many other species including…

- holly and common blue
- silver washed fritillary
- clouded yellow
- peacock
- meadow brown
- speckled wood
- small and large white (not shown)

The transect runs across the site and through a variety of habitats.

Huge thanks to .soulcraft and work exp student Alana for all your help setting up and recording the data.

Did you know we have around 58 (depending who you ask!) native species of butterflies in this country. Sadly well over half are in long term decline due to pollution, habitat destruction and climate change. See the 50 year report by UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme in Wareham for more data.

All photos taken by us on iPhone 16. You’ve no idea how hard it is to photograph butterflies until you really try. They are the worst 😂

Real world consequences for our wild animals.

Sad to find this beautiful juvenile buzzard dead on our log pile this afternoon. Most likely died from heat exhaustion. Water sources are harder to come by and the heat is relentless here.

Action! If you can, put water out for the wildlife in your garden. It really can make a difference.

I said a few words of goodbye and left them gently in the woods for their next journey and to return to the soil 😢

Climate change is real, it’s man made and it’s still just about fixable.

Action! Demand more of our leaders.

Action! If you find an injured or sick animal contact your local wildlife hospital. In Wiltshire our nearest is Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital.

Pine marten project posters and leaflets designed by us for the Wiltshire mammal group Pine marten project.

This is a stand at the Wiltshire Game & Country Fair at Bowood House from the weekend.

In Rich’s previous life he was a graphic designer for 20+ years. Now he gets to cherry pick nice projects for nice people; in this case some funding from Farming in Protected Landscapes and a skill swap with brilliant ecologist and friend of the project Gareth Harris. Amongst many things, Gareth leads our guided bat walks.

Apology! We’re sorry for the lack of sm posts. It’s not that we’ve been slacking - we’re just flat out and our lives are not our own right now - mostly in a good way, but goodness there is never any down time!

Life is circular.

This Muntjac kit was a freshly dead animal in our ponds a little over 4 months ago.

Now, thanks to the endless heatwaves and zero rain, our ponds have dried out and I’ve been collecting and examining the remains.

Everything except the bones has decayed and broken down and been absorbed back into the soil which - in short - is where all our new life comes from.

So if you saw a bloke wandering up the bridle way with a Lidl bag full of bones, that was me! Completely normal behaviour!!
