Thank you to everyone who attended our smear clinic on Saturday where 15 more lady's have now had their cervical screening test 😀

Details of our next walk in smear clinic:
Saturday 19th September 2026
Tow Law Surgery
9am - 12:30pm

This smear clinic will be run by our Practice Nurse, Sue. The clinic is available for all lady's whose smear is due, have had your invite letter and you are registered at one of our 5 surgery sites at The Medical Group. Our sites include:
💗Meadowfield
💗Esh Winning
💗Langley Park
💗Tow Law
💗Ushaw Moor

You will be greeted on reception by Kirstie & Ellie. You don't need an appointment, you just need to turn up between the above times. We hope to see you all there 🙂

Please note - If the clinic reaches full capacity it will unfortunately finish earlier than planned to ensure the nurse can continue safely. This will be reviewed by the Practice Nurse on the day depending on the time and how many patients she has still waiting to be seen already in the waiting room.

👃 Nasal Flu Clinic for 2–3 Year Olds 👃

Our Practice Nurse, Kirsty, will be holding a nasal flu vaccination clinic on Thursday 24th September at Ushaw Moor Surgery, for Ushaw Moor patients only.

If your child is aged 2–3 years and has not yet had their nasal flu vaccination, please contact the surgery to book an appointment.

📱 Alternatively, you can book using the booking link sent to your phone, if you have received one.

Please help us protect your little ones this flu season. 💙

📢 Important Patient Update

We would like to let our patients know that Dr Salam will be leaving The Medical Group in September 2026 to take up a new opportunity.

Dr Salam has been a valued member of our team for more than 15 years, caring for patients and families across our community. We would like to thank him for his dedication, commitment and the excellent care he has provided during his time with us.

📅 His last clinic day will be Friday 11 September 2026.
If Dr Salam is your named GP, you do not need to do anything. Patients will be allocated to another GP within the practice, and there will be no change to your registration or access to appointments and services.

Please join us in thanking Dr Salam for his many years of service and wishing him every success and happiness for the future. 💙

📢 We're Hiring – Medical Receptionist (12-Month Fixed Term)

We are looking for a friendly, organised and enthusiastic Medical Receptionist to join our team. The position is full-time on a 1 year fixed term contract.

Key responsibilities include:
• Welcoming patients and providing excellent customer service
• Booking appointments and handling telephone enquiries
• Care navigating patients to the appropriate service
• Registering new patients and updating records
• Processing repeat prescription requests and medication queries
• Managing emails, scanning documents and supporting the clinical team
• General reception and administrative duties
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and IT skills, be able to work well as part of a team, maintain strict confidentiality, and provide a professional, caring service to our patients.

Safety Alert

Do you use gas or colic relief tubes for your baby?
Please be aware that the MHRA has advised parents not to use re**al catheters in babies.
They are not recommended for treating colic, trapped wind, gas or constipation, as there is not enough evidence that they are effective and their potential risks are uncertain.
If you have one at home, please stop using it and dispose of it.
For advice about your baby's symptoms, speak to your health visitor, GP or NHS 111.
