As I always say โprops are like your friends, they are there to help you when you need themโ ๐๐ป
The Intelligent Art of Prop-Assisted Practice
Props are not shortcuts. They are instruments of awareness.
In yoga, the goal is never to โcompleteโ a pose at the cost of its integrity. Forcing the body creates fatigue, dullness, and even fear in the system.
A brick under the hand is not there to make the pose easier. It is there to teach the chest to expand.
A rope is not support. It is a teacher for opening what has become closed.
A blanket is not comfort. It is structure for correct action.
Props allow you to:
โข Maintain alignment without strain
โข Study the pose without exhaustion
โข Awaken dull, unresponsive areas
โข Sustain practice over decades
This is the method pioneered by B.K.S. Iyengar โ where props are used to cultivate intelligence, not dependency.
The question is not: โCan you do the pose?โ
The question is: Can you understand the pose?
๐ฌ How has prop-assisted practice changed your understanding of movement?
๐ฌ Comment โPropsโ if a prop has ever helped you experience a pose differently!
