What an end to an era. Our General Manager Debbie Skinner has officially retired after 20 years at The Lodge.

Debbie has been overwhelmed by the amount of emails, calls messages and certainly amount of flowers she has received. We hopefully done her proud and had a fantastic party for her yesterday. Debbie had many surprises, which started with a special meal at lunch time with friends of The Lodge, previous and current staff and some of the senior management team.

We then started the party with a playlist of her favourite music, a flowing bar of drinks, and a superb group of guests which kept Debbie on her toes not knowing who else would walk in. We had a gorgeous afternoon tea, cake and a final surprise of Debbie's daughter arriving, presents and speeches which brought tears to eyes.

I cannot thank those enough who travelled hundreds of miles to join us, manage to keep it a surprise and most importantly the fantastic team at The Lodge that worked together to make it a memorable day.

Happy Retirement Debbie, enjoy, relax and keep in touch.

Now onto the new chapter at The Lodge with our new Home Manager, Annelli. We all give her a massive welcome.

The Head of Departments morning meeting is nicknamed bingo as we all mark off what we need to say.
For Debbie's last morning meeting, we organised a surprise game of bingo! As you can see Daniela our Clinical Care Manager was the winner!! Thank you Tony for organising and the breakfast baps!

As you may know our General Manager Debbie is retiring on Friday after 20 years at The Lodge Care Home.

Last week we went into town for the residents to choose and buy her presents. They have a lovely lunch at John Lewis & Partners and the residents enjoyed being able to make their own choices for Debbie.

One of our lovely nurses, Karen, is our 'Sensory Champion'.
Recently, she held a drop in session for staff to come and understand more about the importance of our senses. This is something most of us take for granted every day, but Karen wanted to show staff how difficult it can be for residents who may have an issue with their eyesight, touch, taste, hearing or smell.
-We wore gloves while trying to button a shirt to show how difficult it can be when you may have lost feeling or have restricted movement.
-We were blindfolded and were fed things not knowing what they were to show how the explanation of what the food is important, and to cut up food not knowing what was on our plate. Communication is key.
-We wore ear defenders and tried talking to each other to show how difficult it is if someone doesn't have hearing aids in, or they are deaf.
-Finally we sat on stones to show how uncomfortable it can be if left uncomfortable with twisted clothing or a bumpy cushion.
Well done and thank you Karen for an eye opening session.
