When Neil first started seeing Albie in January, he was running four times a week and preparing for a major cycling challenge in France.
As his training became more demanding, his massage appointments increased too - initially monthly, then fortnightly and eventually weekly in the run-up to the event.
The goal was simple: support recovery, keep an eye on areas that were becoming tight or niggly, and help him maintain his training.
By the peak weeks, Neil was cycling around 14 hours a week.
Then came the challenge itself: five days cycling through the French Alps, covering 70–80km and around 1,500m of ascent every day.
The group tackled some of the iconic climbs of the Tour de France, including Alpe d’Huez, the Galibier, the Madeleine and Col de Télégraph — all during a particularly hot spell in France.
Neil says: "The strategy must have worked because I was injury-free in the run up to the trip, and during the trip itself."
He also found that regular treatment helped him keep pace as his training volume increased, particularly when his calves and hamstrings became tight.
Now back home, Neil has booked another block of regular treatments as he continues his cycling and running training.
His next challenge? The Wye Valley Sportive later this month, followed by a return to triathlon in 2027.
For Neil, regular massage is now part of how he supports his training and stays active: "A friendly, responsive service that supports me in continuing to be active and tackling sporting challenges, and helps with both injury prevention and injury rehab."
Thanks to Neil for sharing his experience - and for the fantastic photo!
With Neil’s permission, we’re sharing his experience as an example of how regular treatment can form part of an individual training programme.
