Breast screening can help find breast cancer before you notice any signs or symptoms. 🎀

NHS breast screening uses X-rays called mammograms to look for breast cancers that may be too small to see or feel. Finding breast cancer earlier can mean treatment is more likely to be successful.

If you're eligible for NHS breast screening, you'll be invited when it's time for your appointment. When you receive your invitation, please take the time to read the information provided and arrange your screening.

Screening is for people without symptoms. If you notice a new lump, changes to the size or shape of your breast, ni**le or skin changes, or anything else that is unusual for you, do not wait for your next screening invitation – contact your GP.💗

Mouth Cancer Action Month 👄

Although it’s not the first cancer that springs to mind, 10,825 people in the UK were diagnosed with Mouth Cancer last year, and 3637 people in the UK lost their lives to it.
We are all encouraged to do a self check for mouth cancer at least once a month. The Mouth Cancer Foundation has an illustrated guide to checking your mouth and the most common symptoms here: https://www.mouthcancerfoundation.org/self-examination/.

Movember – Men’s Health Awareness Month, 1st– 30th November

The Movember initiative started as a simple idea: get a few mates to grow moustaches in November and start a serious conversation about men's health. Today Movember raises millions to help fund prevention-focused work across mental health and su***de prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

You can join in the ‘classic’ way by growing a moustache for sponsorship during November, or ‘Move for Mental Health’, pledging to walk or run 60km during November to highlight that 60 men are lost to su***de globally every hour.

Psoriasis Awareness Week

Psoriasis is an inflammatory condition in which the immune system is overactive. It causes a person’s skin replacement process to speed up, so that it takes just a few days to replace skin cells, when it usually takes 21-28 days. This results in a build-up of immature skin cells, which are visible as raised patches of flaky skin covered with silvery scales (known as ‘plaques’), which can also be itchy.

There is no cure for psoriasis, but it can be managed with the right treatment and advice. It is a complex condition, and there are many aspects which are misunderstood, under-treated and under-appreciated.
