This is very important. I had people contact me over the summer thinking they were doing a properly assessed course and they were not.

If you’re a career-switcher worried you’ll be “tested on paper but not trained for real client situations”, this matters.

Not all courses show you how theory is assessed alongside supervised, client-facing practice.

Before you enrol, ask schools for the exact assessment pathway and check for:
1) External verification (e.g. the NCH Gold Standard)
2) Level 4 academic qualifications
3) A curriculum split between theory and practical application

Save this, then compare properly with NCH-approved schools.

We always start with consent and a safety plan, agreed with you before any induction. That means you stay in the driver’s seat, with clear boundaries set up in advance.

Here’s how we help you feel safe and in control:
• We agree your goal and your limits first
• You choose a simple stop phrase you can use any time
• Your hypnotherapist guides, like GPS, never forces

In moments like this, we may gently invite you to become a sensory detective. Start with one nearby sensation:

• Notice 5 things you can see
• 4 things you can touch
• 3 things you can hear
• 2 things you can smell
• 1 thing you can taste

This 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique helps bring your attention back to what is happening around you, rather than leaving you alone with anxious thoughts. Try it slowly, without judging yourself if it feels difficult at first.

An NCH-registered hypnotherapist can help you practise grounding skills safely and find approaches suited to you.

A polished prospectus proves nothing about training quality.

Before enrolling, ask:
• Who independently verifies the school’s standards?
• What Level 4 qualification will you achieve?
• How much supervised practice connects theory with safe client work?

If the answers are vague, pause. Strong marketing cannot replace external verification, academic depth, and practical preparation. Choosing an NCH-approved school gives you a clearer route towards high standards of education and ethical practice in the UK.

Our training school is (UK Academy Scotland) is part of the NCH and our qualification (HPD) goes through rigorous vetting and standardisation. This means that students do a body of work (like an open exam) which is then sent to the external marker (NCFE) and they must pass these rigorous standards to pass. The NCFE is an exam body that is recognised in Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales. Unfortunately some training schools do not offer this level of qualification, essentially giving students a certificate of attendance after 6-10 months, or giving the students as short paper to complete in which the trainer marks themselves!
We therefore offer the gold standard in training.
Our training is a minimum of 120 classroom hours and 120 hours of self directed study.
We are accredited by the CNHC which is recognised by the NHS
We are accredited by the NCH which is the oldest and largest professional body in the UK
All our trainers are Scottish trained and have Scottish practices
We have outstanding aftercare, such as access to further training in specialised areas, supervision and opportunities to work in our hypnotherapy clinic

Please make sure the you check that your training school is listed as an accredited member of the NCH before signing up. This means that your qualification is of the highest level in our profession.

The Carers Education Course offers the opportunity to:

"I thought hypnotherapy was just about stopping smoking, I didn't realise it could help with chronic pain."

A 2024 meta-analysis in *Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews* found hypnotherapy significantly reduced pain intensity across 14 randomised controlled trials, with effects lasting beyond the session.
