Often, it’s because they’re naturally curious and exploring the world around them.

Many of these accidents happen within the home, so here’s a reminder of one everyday danger that can have serious consequences. 👀

☕️ 𝐈𝐟 𝐚 𝐡𝐨𝐭 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝’𝐬 𝐧𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲, 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲.

You can see here how the temperature is retained inside the nappy as the hot water is absorbed.

👶🏼 Nappies are designed to retain liquid, so in a hot drink or water spill, all of that hot liquid is being held directly against your little one’s skin. This is why it’s important to remove it as quickly as possible.

⭐️ The exception to this is if the material is stuck to burnt skin, do not attempt to peel or remove.

❤️‍🩹 Burns or scalds on the ge****ls can be severe and may warrant further medical treatment.

With a few small changes, we can make a big difference. Help reduce those accidents and admissions… think like a curious toddler and spot those dangers before they do! 💚

Sepsis kills more people than breast, bowel and prostate cancer combined. Do you know the signs and symptoms?

Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection that can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death.

Normally our immune system fights infection - but sometimes, for reasons we don’t yet understand, it sometimes attacks our body’s organs and tissues.

With early diagnosis, it can be treated with antibiotics, which is why it is so important to know what signs and symptoms to look out for in adults and in babies and children.

A child may have sepsis if they:

- Are breathing very fast
- Have a ‘fit’ or convulsion
- Look mottled, bluish, or pale – on darker pigmented skin, colour changes may show on the inside of the forearms or palms
- Have a rash that does not fade when you press it
- Are very lethargic or difficult to wake
- Feel abnormally cold to touch

🚨 TODAY IS WORLD SEPSIS DAY 🚨

Would you know the signs of sepsis?

Sepsis can develop quickly and can be life-threatening. Knowing what to look for could help you recognise when someone needs urgent medical attention.

⚠️ Some signs to look out for include:
• Very fast breathing
• A fit or convulsion
• Pale, mottled or bluish skin
• A rash that doesn’t fade when pressed
• Being very lethargic or difficult to wake
• Feeling abnormally cold to touch

👶 In children especially, trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t be afraid to seek help.

📞 If you think it could be sepsis, call 999 or go straight to A&E.

🚨 COULD IT BE SEPSIS? 🚨

This week we’re raising awareness of sepsis in children and adults because knowing the signs could help save a life. ❤️

👶 CHILDREN

A child may have sepsis if they:

• Are breathing very fast
• Have a fit or convulsion
• Look mottled, bluish or pale
• Have a rash that doesn’t fade when pressed
• Are very lethargic or difficult to wake
• Feel abnormally cold to touch

🧑 ADULTS

An adult may have sepsis if they have:

• Slurred speech or confusion
• Extreme shivering or severe muscle pain
• Passed no urine for a day
• Severe breathlessness
• A feeling that they’re going to die
• Mottled or discoloured skin

⚠️ TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS

If you’re worried that someone may have an infection or sepsis, don’t be afraid to ask:

👉 “COULD IT BE SEPSIS?”

📞 If you think someone may have sepsis, seek urgent medical help. Call 999 or go to A&E if someone has signs of sepsis.
