Sarah, 49, was admitted to St Oswald's Hospice in November 2022, when care at home became unsustainable.

Mum to three children, Sarah was often described as the 'life and soul', with a real gift for getting to know people and bring people together. 💙

Dee, Sarah's mum, remembers, "Nothing was too much trouble for the Hospice. On one occasion, Sarah's book club arranged a tea party, with the help of the staff, in the Family Room overlooking the gardens. The group all wore silly hats, fussed over Sarah and enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea. It was so much fun and Sarah loved it."

Care like this needs to be protected so that we can continue to be here for people like Sarah, for years to come. 🤲

There's been plenty of coo-ing over some very special new arrivals in our Hospice gardens...💙🕊️

Hidden amongst the leafy, tranquil surroundings of our Adult Inpatient Unit garden, a family of baby pigeons has recently hatched and is already capturing hearts. 🥰

As they nestle safely amongst the greenery, these tiny feathered residents have brought moments of joy, curiosity and conversation to patients, families, staff and volunteers alike.

Our gardens are a special haven, not only for the people who spend time here, but for the wildlife that chooses to call them home too. Watching these little chicks grow is a lovely reminder of the comfort, calm and connection with nature that our outdoor spaces can provide.

The trail may be over, but the adventure isn't! 💙🐰

Peter Rabbit: Tales on the Tyne has officially come to an end, and from today our fluffle of bunnies will begin hopping away from the streets, parks and landmarks they've called home throughout the summer.

But don't worry...this isn't the end of the tale just yet! 👀

Our Peter Rabbit sculptures are heading back to their burrows for a little TLC before their big moment at the Farewell Weekend at Newcastle Civic Centre. For one last hopportunity, you'll be able to see all 96 sculptures together, alongside six brand-new, never-before-seen rabbits who will be joining the auction the following Tuesday.

Hospice care is more than you think, and it's closer than you know.

If the aches and pains are easing a little, are you starting to think about Great North Run 2027? Or were you inspired by all of the incredible runners who took part at the weekend and fancy giving it a go yourself? 🏃‍♂️🏅

Now is the time, as the September ballot is open, but only until this Sunday! Enter now and you’ll have the chance to be part of the greatest half marathon in the world next year 👀

A huge thank you and congratulations to every single one of our Great North Run Dream Team 2026! 🎉

You’ve all done a wonderful thing for St Oswald’s Hospice and for all the patients and families who rely on our services and support. We’re so proud of every one of our runners who took part in the events over the weekend. 💙

Our volunteers are ready to welcome back our runners to Avenue D, tent 47, at the Great North Run charity village. We can’t wait to meet them all and celebrate together! 🎉💙

As well as our hospice volunteers and staff on hand to give a warm welcome to our runners, massage therapists Paul Simpson, Danny McIntyre, Faye Ashett from Ollive Wellness Therapies, Maddie Rockliffe-King from Vigour Clinic, Toby Bolton from TB massage and Sally Yang from Innnereal be on hand to ease aching muscles. And of course our brilliant musicians NDI-IGBO, who will cheer the runners as they pass mile 4.5.

Our tent is fully stocked with tasty treats thanks to Asda, Bobby's Foods, Ringtons and Templeman Retailing & Vending. And our hospice volunteer Eileen has baked some of her famous traybakes for that much needed sugar hit post-run. And our friends at Bell Truck and Van Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles who gave us use of a vehicle to transport all our equipment to the charity village.

It’s Super Saturday for our young supporters! 🏃

Good luck to all of our fantastic young runners taking on the Mini and Junior Great North Run today.

If you are going down to the Quayside to cheer on a young runner, don’t forget to say hello to our Peter Rabbit: Tales on the Tyne sculptures, who are there for one more weekend before the trail finishes on Monday. 💙
