π NEXPLANON UPDATE π
Good news! The Nexplanon contraceptive implant can now be used for up to 5 years for contraception.
This follows updated guidance showing the implant remains highly effective during years 4 and 5 of use.
β
Existing implants do not need replacing at 3 years
β
Current implants can remain in place for an additional 2 years
β
New implant users should be advised that Nexplanon provides contraception for up to 5 years
Please note: if your implant has been in place for longer than 5 years, it may no longer provide effective contraception. Please contact your GP practice or sexual health service for advice.
If you experience any new, unusual or concerning bleeding whilst using Nexplanon, please seek medical advice.
