πŸ’™ NEXPLANON UPDATE πŸ’™

Good news! The Nexplanon contraceptive implant can now be used for up to 5 years for contraception.

This follows updated guidance showing the implant remains highly effective during years 4 and 5 of use.

βœ… Existing implants do not need replacing at 3 years
βœ… Current implants can remain in place for an additional 2 years
βœ… New implant users should be advised that Nexplanon provides contraception for up to 5 years

Please note: if your implant has been in place for longer than 5 years, it may no longer provide effective contraception. Please contact your GP practice or sexual health service for advice.

If you experience any new, unusual or concerning bleeding whilst using Nexplanon, please seek medical advice.

Too much screen time can affect sleep, mood, learning and development β€” especially in young children πŸ“±πŸ’€

Making small changes like screen-free mealtimes, outdoor play, reading together and winding down without devices before bed can all help support a healthier balance πŸ’›

πŸ“Š In April alone, our team booked thousands of appointments for patients across the practice. However, we continue to see a high number of missed appointments (DNAs), alongside unprecedented demand for GP services.

Like many surgeries across the NHS, our capacity is limited. To help ensure requests are managed fairly, safely and appropriately, we are moving to a Total Triage model.

This means your request will be reviewed by a GP or trained clinician, who will determine:
β€’ the most appropriate course of action
β€’ how urgently you need to be seen
β€’ whether another service may be better placed to help

It is extremely important that you provide as much relevant information and detail as possible when contacting us. This helps clinicians assess your symptoms accurately and ensure the right care is provided.

πŸ“ž Ways to contact the practice:

πŸ’» eConsult via our practice website (preferred method)
Designed to ask the most relevant questions about your symptoms to support accurate clinical triage.

☎️ Telephone
β€’ Option 1 – routine requests
β€’ Option 2 – urgent requests

Please note: selecting the urgent option does not automatically mean you will receive an urgent appointment. All requests are clinically assessed.

πŸ“ Triage forms at reception
Please include as much detail as possible. You will be contacted once a clinical decision has been made.

We understand it can feel frustrating when you are not offered an appointment on the same day or are asked to wait longer than expected. Please be assured that every request is clinically reviewed and prioritised based on need.

You may also be:
πŸ’Š Signposted to a pharmacy or self-care advice
πŸ₯ Offered an appointment at the Extended Hours Clinic in Waterlooville
πŸš‘ Directed to attend UTC or A&E where appropriate

These decisions are made to ensure you receive the most appropriate and timely care. Services such as pharmacies, UTCs and extended access clinics are an important part of supporting patients safely when demand on GP practices is high.

Thank you for your continued patience, understanding and support while we adapt our services to meet increasing demand and continue providing safe patient care. πŸ’™
