Our Emergency Department (ED) is very busy this morning.

As always, please only attend our ED for life-threatening emergencies. If you do need to attend, you may need to wait longer to be seen.

For all other health concerns, please seek the right care in the right place such as:

🌐 NHS Inform Self-Help Guides – for online advice for common symptoms and conditions: www.nhsinform.scot

πŸ’Š Community Pharmacies – for advice and treatment for minor illnesses

πŸ“ž NHS 24 – call 111 if:
- you think you need to go to the Emergency Department but its not life or limb threatening
- you need support with mental health distress
- you need urgent care and your GP, pharmacy or dental practice is closed.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We are experiencing significant pressure across the healthcare system. The Emergency Department is exceptionally busy with long waits for admission.

As always, please only attend the department if it is a life-threatening emergency. If you have a minor injury or urgent health problem which isn't life-threatening please seek the right care in the right place:

NHS Inform Self-Help Guides – for online advice for common symptoms and conditions: www.nhsinform.scot

Community Pharmacies – for advice and treatment for minor illnesses

Your GP – for ongoing or urgent non-life-threatening medical issues

NHS 24 – call 111 if:

- you think you need to go to the Emergency Department but it’s not life or limb threatening

- you need support with mental health distress

- you need urgent care and your GP, pharmacy or dental practice is closed.

NHS 24 will signpost you to the right place to get the advice or care that you need. You may need to wait a while for your call to be answered or for a member of the team to call you back, but this can be done in the comfort of your own home. If you do need to be seen, you may be given an appointment time to minimise the time you need to spend in the Emergency Department. This also reduces pressure on our team.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Do you think you would benefit from a walking aid? Or is your current walking aid showing signs of wear and tear?

Here's when our wonderful Physiotherapy Team will be at What Matters Hubs to chat, answer questions and provide information about walking aids.

We’re currently seeing more cases of winter illnesses like flu across the Borders. To protect yourself, our patients and our staff, please:

βœ… Do not visit if you’re unwell – wait until you’re fully recovered and symptom-free for 48 hours
βœ… Use hand gel before entering and leaving wards
βœ… Wear a face covering if you wish (but this is not mandatory)

Visitors can unintentionally spread infections, so taking these steps really matter.

To keep everyone as safe as possible we will also be strengthening infection control measures, including moving to essential visiting only more quickly during outbreaks.

Thank you for helping to keep our patients, staff and wider communities safe this winter.
