Pregnancy screening tests are offered during pregnancy to help check the health of you and your baby ππΆ
These tests can help identify the chance of certain conditions early on, allowing you to access the right care, support and information throughout your pregnancy π
Screening tests offered during pregnancy may include checks for:
β’ Downβs syndrome, Edwardsβ syndrome and Patauβs syndrome
β’ sickle cell disease and thalassaemia
β’ infectious diseases such as HIV, hepatitis B and syphilis
β’ physical conditions identified during ultrasound scans π©Ί
Youβll also be offered ultrasound scans during pregnancy, including the dating scan and the 20-week screening scan πΆ
Itβs important to remember that screening tests are your choice. Your midwife or healthcare team will explain each test, what it looks for and what the results may mean so you can decide what feels right for you π«
If you have any questions or concerns, speak to your midwife or maternity team for advice and support π
