Reception Team – Friday Morning 21st August

Our reception team will be away from the surgery on Friday morning as they are attending a funeral to support a colleague and their family.

Our secretarial team will be covering reception during this time. Although they are more than happy to help, this is not their usual role, so they may not be able to deal with queries as quickly or in quite the same way as our reception team normally would.

They will be able to help with most enquiries, but we kindly ask for your patience and understanding while they support the surgery.

🏊 Wild Swimming in the River Wharfe? Read This First

Only one stretch of the River Wharfe (at Ilkley) is officially monitored for water quality, between 15 May–30 September. Other popular wild swimming spots along the river aren’t regularly tested — so water quality there is unknown.

⚠️ Swallowing river water can make you ill. Bugs like Cryptosporidium, Giardia, and Campylobacter can cause diarrhoea and stomach upset.

If you’ve been wild swimming and develop persistent diarrhoea (lasting 7 days in adults or 2 weeks in children), please let your clinician know during your appointment — some of these infections need specific tests that aren’t part of routine screening, so it helps us investigate properly.

🚭 Please Help Us Keep Our Car Park Safe

We kindly ask patients not to discard cigarette butts in the surgery car park or surrounding areas.

The ground is currently very dry, and discarded cigarette ends could pose a significant fire risk, as well as leaving litter around the surgery.

Please ensure all cigarette ends are safely extinguished and disposed of appropriately.

British Sign Language (BSL) users can contact us using a BSL video interpreter through InterpretersLive!, provided by Sign Solutions.

How to Use the Service

· Go to our website and click the link.

· You can use the service from 8:00am to 6:30pm, Monday to Friday.

· You will be asked a few questions.

· You will be connected to a BSL interpreter.

· Tell the interpreter which GP surgery you want to talk to.

· The interpreter will call your GP surgery and help you talk to them.

BSL Interpreters for Appointments

· We can give you a BSL video interpreter when you come for your appointment. You do not need to book this in advance.

· If you want an interpreter to come in person, please tell us as soon as you can. We usually need 2–3 weeks to book a face-to-face interpreter.

· Sometimes, we cannot get a face-to-face interpreter because there are not enough BSL interpreters. If this happens, we will give you a video interpreter.

😷 Please Help Protect Our Team – Mask Request in Surgery 😷

We wanted to let you know that a valued member of our practice team is immunosuppressed. This means that infections which are mild for most people could make them seriously unwell.

To help keep them – and other vulnerable patients – safe, we kindly ask:

👉 If you have coughs, colds, sore throat, flu‑like or COVID‑type symptoms and need to attend the surgery in person, please wear a face mask while you are in the building.
👉 If you do not have a mask, please ask at reception and we will do our best to provide one.
👉 Where possible, consider telephone or online consultations instead of coming in, especially if you are acutely unwell with a respiratory illness.

This small step makes a big difference in protecting our staff and other patients who are at higher risk from infections. Thank you for your understanding, kindness and support in helping us keep the practice safe for everyone. 💙

A Kind Request to Our Patients

Due to a recent bereavement that has deeply affected our whole team, together with some unexpected staff sickness and pre-booked annual leave, our reception team is currently working with reduced staffing.

As a result, you may experience longer waiting times than usual. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and ask for your patience and understanding while we support one another through this difficult time.

We would also like to remind everyone that our staff are here to help. They work incredibly hard every day, and we have a zero-tolerance approach to abusive or aggressive behavior towards any member of our team.

To help us manage demand, please consider using one of the following ways to contact the surgery:

Telephone – Our callback system holds your place in the queue, so you don't need to stay on the line.
Online Form – Submit both non-urgent medical and administrative requests using our online query form.
Repeat Prescriptions – Order your medication quickly and easily through the NHS App or SystmOnline.
Your Local Pharmacy – Pharmacists can provide expert advice, treat many common illnesses, and, through the Pharmacy First scheme, can supply antibiotics and other treatments for certain conditions without you needing to see a GP.

NHS England is inviting children aged **6–11 years** to catch up on any missed **MMR or MMRV vaccinations** at their GP practice.

The MMR vaccine helps protect against measles, mumps and rubella and is the best way to keep your child protected.
