Last week, we celebrated the retirement of Angela Stephenson, who has been with us at The Light Surgery since the very beginning, joining on the very day the surgery first opened its doors.

From that first day almost two decades ago, she has been an integral part of The Light Surgery, seen every other team member join us, and has helped shape the surgery into the caring, supportive, and welcoming place it is today.

Thank you Angela, for everything you have contributed to The Light Surgery and One Medical Group. We wish you every happiness, relaxation and adventures with your Grandchildren — you have truly earned it 🩷

Whether through the care we deliver or the places we help shape, we’re here to champion equity, dignity, and belonging for all.

With the warmer weather, it can be tempting to spend more time outdoors enjoying the sun, but it’s important to stay safe while making the most of it.

Remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, take breaks in the shade, and look out for those who may be more vulnerable in the heat.

Staying Hydrated💧
Don't forget to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Isotonic and electrolyte drinks are also great options for hydration. Avoid caffeine and alcohol as these will dehydrate you.

Keep in the shade ⛱
Keep out of direct heat if you can. If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter.

This week, 18–24 May, marks Dementia Action Week.💙

Dementia is the UK's biggest killer. Every 3 minutes, someone in the UK develops it. 1 in 3 people born today will go on to develop dementia in their lifetime. These are not just statistics - behind each one is a person, a family, a community navigating something incredibly difficult.
Dementia Action Week is a reminder of how important awareness, patience and understanding are in helping people feel safe, valued and supported within their own homes and communities.💙

Today is ! 🩺

At OneMedical Group, we are incredibly proud of our nursing teams at The Light Surgery, and we want to celebrate the remarkable contribution you make to our society.

So, we would like to give a huge THANK YOU to our nurses for their hard work, dedication, and the amazing care they provide to our patients every day.

"To do what nobody else will do, a way that nobody else can do, in spite of all we go through; that is to be a nurse." — Rawsi Williams

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month!

Talk to your GP if you are experiencing any of the symptoms, they can provide an at-home testing kit that's easy to use.

The earlier it's spotted, the more treatable it's likely to be - screening saves lives!

Cases of invasive meningococcal disease (MenB) have been confirmed in Kent. UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is running a targeted MenB vaccination programme only for students living in halls at the University of Kent. This is not a wider public programme at this time.

UKHSA has said the programme may expand as they continue to assess the situation, but no broader rollout has yet been announced.

If you’ve been advised to check your vaccination history (e.g., by a university), you can view your past vaccines via the NHS App under your GP health record.

NOTICE: We are not currently able to offer MenB vaccinations unless national guidance changes - with exception to eligible children who are invited as part of the routine UK immunisation schedule'

It's important to know the signs of symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia. Get more info from http://nhs.uk/conditions/meningitis

We’ll keep you updated as guidance develops.

Important Patient Information: Use of Heidi Health at Our Practice

We’re writing to let you know that our practice will soon begin using a digital tool called Heidi Health to support the care we provide to you.

What is Heidi Health?
Heidi Health is designed to improve the quality, safety, and speed of care. Heidi Health does not replace your doctor or nurse. It simply supports them behind the scenes — similar to a digital scribe — helping with the technical side of recording and organising medical information.

What does this mean for you?
When you visit or speak with one of our clinical team members, they may use Heidi Health to help record and review relevant health information. This allows them to focus more on your care and less on admin tasks.

Consent and your choice
Your consent is important. Our clinical team will always ask for your permission before using Heidi Health during your consultation.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, our team will be happy to discuss them with you.

Data privacy and security
Heidi Health is fully compliant with NHS data protection standards. Your information remains secure, confidential, and is only accessed by authorised staff involved in your care.

We’re confident this will help us provide you with better, more efficient care.

Thank you for your continued trust in our practice.
