World Mental Health Day is a reminder that wellbeing isn't just about the mind — it's connected to the whole body, including our eyes.
Living with vision problems, whether it's blurry sight, chronic dry eye, or more significant vision loss, can take a real toll on mental health. It can affect confidence, independence, and the ability to do the everyday things that bring us joy — reading, driving, recognising a loved one's face, or simply going about daily life with ease.
Research consistently shows people living with vision impairment are more likely to experience anxiety and low mood than those without — yet this connection is often overlooked in conversations about mental health.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀? Many eye conditions are treatable or manageable, and looking after your eye health can be part of looking after your mental wellbeing too. If your eyes feel uncomfortable, dry, or your vision has changed, it's worth getting it checked rather than living with it.
This #𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗗𝗮𝘆, let's remember taking care of how we see the world is part of taking care of how we feel in it. 💙
If you're struggling with your mental health, please reach out to a GP or a mental health support service — you don't have to face it alone.
