It is a long-standing misconception that funeral directors simply “turn up” on the day of a funeral.

Of course we are there on the day but behind that moment lies a considerable amount of work: arranging documentation, liaising with hospitals, coroners, crematoria or cemeteries, caring for the person who has died, coordinating timings, vehicles, staff, music, paperwork and countless other details.

A client recently suggested that I was earning £1,000 a day ‘simply for turning up..’ The reality could not be further from the truth.

Dan’s video below shows just a tiny part of the work that goes into arranging and conducting a funeral much of which families never see, because our job is to make everything appear calm, dignified and effortless when the day finally arrives.

I used to think how pathetic it was when my dad would rave about getting a new set of screwdrivers……after all they’re only blinking screwdrivers right………???
