One year ago today, Avenues became the only BMI-inclusive fertility clinic in the UK. 

We believe access to fertility care shouldn’t come down to a single number on a scale.

Every patient deserves an individual assessment, honest conversations and the opportunity to understand their options.

One year on, here are some of the things we’ve learned along the way:

• Patients with a higher BMI can be treated safely and effectively when the right protocols are in place.

• Similar egg & blastocyst outcomes:

Higher BMI patients (n=184) achieved an average of 11.1 eggs and 3.62 blastocysts per cycle, compared with 12.28 eggs and 3.53 blastocysts in our mixed-BMI cohort (n=556).

• Comparable frozen transfer outcomes:

Clinical pregnancy rate using patients’ own eggs was 42.9% (n=56 transfers), compared with the 45% UK average.

• Comparable donor egg outcomes:

Clinical pregnancy rate following donor egg transfer was 33.3% (n=10 transfers), compared with the 33% UK average.

Two embryos = twice the chance, right? 👀

Not quite.

We understand why transferring two embryos can feel like the better bet. But in most cases, one healthy embryo at a time is the safest approach.

Transferring two embryos increases the chance of twins. Multiple pregnancies come with higher risks for both mum and babies, including premature birth, low birth weight and pregnancy complications.

And importantly, two embryos doesn’t mean double the chance of a baby.

Our goal isn't simply to get you pregnant. It's to help you have the safest possible pregnancy and a healthy baby. 💛

Sometimes, less really is more.
