📅Yesterday (22nd July 2026), Davina, our Croydon MNVP neonatal lead, attended the monthly Family Integrated Care (FiCare) meeting at Croydon University Hospital (CUH).
💬 The focus of this month FiCare meeting at CUH, that connects parents of sick and premature babies with the medical team was:
🚀 the launch of the Padlet - a new online system where Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) parents/carers can access a range of resources to support the care of their babies and well-being. Davina has designed a new poster, that will be displayed around the unit to promote the new Padlet resource system.
👨‍👩‍👧 A new initiative is being produced, that will lead to a family led ward round. Parents and carers will be able to book appointments so that they are able to participate in ward wounds, ask any questions and focus on future goals for their baby. This will be a fantastic way to support and encourage parents to be more involved in their babies care, this will also ensure that parents are included in parts of their babies care by the medical teams.
🎥 The neonatal virtual tour is ready to be launched in the coming weeks. This will be an insightful way for parents, carers and family members, as well as expectant parents, to gain a better understanding of where things are and what they mean, as it can all be very over-whelming.
☕ Davina, then joined the coffee morning that was attended by CUH neonatal mums, dads and siblings past and present. Davina, got to chat with a lovely mum and her two year old daughter about the worries and pressures of post NICU life. Such as the importance of weight gain for NICU babies, finding clothes that fit them and the constant fear of germs.

📓 The National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation, led by Baroness Valerie Amos, final report published, 30th June 2026 - The Amos Report.
💬 CUH director of maternity, neonatal and gynaecology, Chloe Bruney response to the Amos report is as follows
"We welcome the publication of Baroness Amos's national maternity and neonatal review, which follows the recent publication of the Ockenden Report and highlights the need for continued improvement in maternity care across England.
The report makes clear that national change is both urgent and essential, and we welcome the opportunity to work collectively across our region and the wider NHS to deliver the improvements that women, babies and families deserve. A reformed maternity system must provide care that is consistently safe, compassionate, equitable and personalised, regardless of someone's background or circumstances. We are committed to playing our part in delivering that vision by listening to women and families, learning from every experience, and continually strengthening the quality of care we provide.
We know that every day our teams work hard to provide compassionate, high-quality care to hundreds of women and babies and we are proud of the commitment, professionalism and kindness demonstrated by our staff.. At the same time, we recognise that there are areas where we must continue to improve, and we are committed to doing so openly, honestly and alongside our staff and the families we serve. We will carefully review the recommendations from both national reports and continue working with our staff, service users and partners to ensure our services continue to improve and deliver the highest standards of maternity and neonatal care.
Once again, we extend our deepest condolences to the women, babies and families whose experiences and losses are reflected in Baroness Amos's national maternity and neonatal review. 💗“FUTURE AMBITION FOR CROYDON MATERNITY - safe, high quality care to all women and families who use maternity and/or neonatal services” - Croydon Health Services, Maternity and Neonatal Team

📆Yesterday (6th July 2026), Croydon MNVP, attended Croydon University Hospital (CUH) for a Maternity Quality Round Table Meeting.

👨🏿‍⚕️👩🏽‍⚕️This meeting was led by the maternity, neonatal and gynaecology directors Chloe Bruney and David Rose. The Associate Director of Operations Andrea Cuff and CUH Chief Nurse, Deborah Kelly.

CUH Chief Executive, Matthew Kershaw, opened and closed the meeting.

🙋🏼‍♀️There has been many recent changes in leadership at CUH, this meeting was an opportunity to meet the team and also to have an honest conversation about the latest CQC report.

👥This meeting was attended by senior members of NHS England, Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the South West Integrated Care Board (ICB).

🤰🏽There was an amazing showcase of current work and future plans led by the CUH midwives, that demonstrated their dedication and passion for the service they provide to the Croydon community.

💫Croydon MNVP acknowledges that the maternity and neonatal service improvements are a work in progress. We look forward to bringing service user experiences to the team to help make these improvements happen.
We were pleased to see top level engagement and time investment in making sure there is a real commitment to ensuring positive changes. It was great to see the staff being empowered to speak honestly and make change at all levels, hopefully leading to a better culture overall with the maternity and neonatal departments 💪

Croydon Health Services, Director of Midwifery, Neonatal and Gynaecology Services, Chloe Bruney, has issued an official statement regarding the release of the recently completed Ockenden review.

"Last week an independent review into maternity services at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust was published where a number of new mothers shared stories of failings in their care at the organisation.

Although this review relates to services at a specific trust, we know that reports like this can cause concern. We want to reassure all pregnant women, birthing people and families using maternity services at Croydon Health Services that your safety, care and experience are our highest priorities.

We are reviewing the recommendations from this report and will take any actions needed to make sure our services continue to meet national standards and provide the best possible care.

🫶🏽Today Croydon MNVP met and spoke to Louise, from the charity Home-Start Croydon. We decided to write down what she was said about that good care looks like, as most of our feedback comes back to the core values of health professionals demonstrating kindness and freedom of choice.
💕It is important for mums, birthing people and all families to know, that the NHS Constitution enshrines the right to be treated with dignity, respect, compassion, and professional care.

🛝Today we (Croydon MNVP) attended the Bump, Baby and Toddler Fair organised by Kidspace Croydon .
🙏🏽Thank you to all the mums, women and people who came over to have a chat about our work facilitating change through the experiences of those who have used Croydon Health Services - Maternity and neonatal departments.
🤝 We also made some new community connections, to try and find new ways of engaging with the families of Croydon.
