This is what local support looks like in action.

We want to say a heartfelt thank you to Islington Giving for their funding and continued support of The Maya Centre. This will allow us to continue offering safe, welcoming spaces where women feel heard, supported, and able to take steps towards healing and rebuilding their lives.

We’re so grateful to be part of a community that believes in working together to create real change. Islington Giving brings together local people, businesses, and organisations who care deeply about their community. They help raise funds, strengthen local projects, and connect people across . 💜

A special moment celebrating women supporting women 💚

Earlier this week, Mary – our Clinical Lead for the Irish Women’s Service – met Uachtarán na hÉireann / President of Ireland Catherine Connolly at the Irish Embassy London during her first official visit to London.

Mary shared how the Irish Women’s Service at The Maya Centre supports women’s mental health, made possible through ongoing funding from the Irish Government. In her speech, the President also honoured the important contribution of Irish women in Britain, especially in the NHS.

For many women, safety is not something they can take for granted.

At The Maya Centre, being women-only is a vital part of how we support women who have experienced trauma. It allows women to , breathe, and begin healing without fear.

Right now, many women are waiting for counselling in a space like this. With more support, we can reach them sooner.

💜 If you’re able, please consider donating to help us support more women on our waiting list.

We’re so grateful to Cripplegate Foundation for awarding The Maya Centre core funding for another three years! This support helps cover our everyday running costs, so we can keep our doors open and continue supporting hundreds of women each year with safe spaces to breathe, heal, recover, and rebuild.

Cripplegate Foundation has been a long-standing supporter of The Maya Centre, and we truly value their trust in our work. As a local funder in Islington, they help tackle inequality so more people can live free from poverty.

We recently wrapped up a beautiful 8 week Mindful Movement and Joyful Dance class, led by the lovely Aditi Kaushiva from Move to Thrive. Hosted at Islington Mind through our Pathway to Mental Health Recovery partnership, the space was filled with warmth, kindness, joy, and laughter from the moment participants walked in.

Women joined together to release stress, feel calmer, and rediscover playfulness through grounding, breathing, and gentle movement to Bollywood music. Many shared that they felt more energetic, relaxed and more confident in themselves after taking part.

We look forward to offering more opportunities like this. 💛
