I cannot be more grateful for the incredible experience I have had as one of the dermatologists on the board of dermatologists for Garnier UK & Ireland . They took us inside their research labs to show us how their formulations are developed, stress-tested and assessed before anything reaches a shelf. What stayed with me was how many questions a single ingredient has to answer before it earns its place. I can’t share details of their new product launches or technology they use but my gosh! Mind blown!

Healthy hair is built at the scalp and these are the five habits I genuinely keep.
1. Nizoral (2% ketozoconazole) once a week. Beyond its benefit for seborrhoeic dermatitis, there is evidence ketoconazole has a mild local anti-androgen effect, and can help with hair thinning.
2. A hat in strong sun. UV degrades the protein in the hair and the scalp is skin too, so it can burn and inflames like anywhere else.
3. Washing every other day rather than daily or underwashing. Over washing strips the scalp barrier and under washing results in oil and debris build up
4. Eating well, a varied diet with enough protein, iron and zinc. Supplement any deficiencies.
5. Scrunchies over tight elastics, and wearing my hair down most of the day

Little late to the party for my May faves…what a wonderful life! Thank you May! Lots of ice cream was had, talks were given, podcast episodes were recorded and fun with the family was enjoyed. Feel forever grateful that I get to share these moments with you all. Thank you for all your lovely messages and support as always ♥️ (need to work on my bowling skills lol)!

My own skincare changes every summer and it comes down to four things. First, I swap heavy creams for gels and serums, as rich textures can feel suffocating in the warmth. Second, I ease off my AHA, because they increase your sensitivity to the sun, so I keep them to nighttime only and never skip sunscreen the following day. Third, an antioxidant, because sunscreen does not block everything, and a vitamin C in the morning mops up some of the UV damage. Fourth, I cleanse twice daily, because the heat brings more sweat and more oil, and a full day of sunscreen needs properly removing at night, so a gentle gel cleanser morning and evening.

Check the UV index - if 3 or over definitely apply sunscreen (but also apply daily for best skin health).
Sunscreen rules I follow at 43, after 16 years in dermatology 🧴
✦ Two finger lengths is for your face and neck. Most are applying half of this.
✦ SPF 30 minimum but go for 50 as with usual application probably getting about a 30 anyway.
✦ The forgotten zones are where I see the most damage. Eyelids, lips, ears, parting, tops of feet, back of the hands.
✦ UVA, the ageing ray, passes straight through car windows and office glass. Indoors is not safe by default.
✦ There is no safe tan. A tan is your skin’s distress signal, not a glow.

Japanese sunscreen is built like skincare. Anessa weaves in hyaluronic acid, collagen and royal jelly. Bioré’s micro-defence technology fills the gaps for even coverage. Tatcha’s Hadasei-3 of green tea, rice and algae reinforces the skin barrier while you wear it. Clé de Peau’s Skin brightens as it protects. SUQQU melts into the skin with a high level of sensoriality.

Today marks the start of skin cancer awareness month.
Skin cancer is the UK’s most common cancer. Up to 1 in 4 of us will be diagnosed in our lifetime, yet up to 90% of cases are preventable with regular sunscreen use.
Despite this, every bottle of sunscreen sold in the UK is taxed at 20% as a ‘luxury and cosmetic’ item. In a cost of living crisis, this prices the most vulnerable out of skin cancer prevention.
Sunscreen isn’t cosmetic. It’s critical.
I’m joining and the 70,000 supporters of the AXE the SPF Tax campaign in calling on the Government to scrap this tax. Sign the petition at change.org/axethespftax
The best sunscreen is the one you’ll actually wear every day. Here are some affordable broad-spectrum options widely available in the UK:
SPF 50
ambre solaire SPF 50+
nivea sun UV SPF 50
SPF 50+
facial SPF50
