Yellow semen? It's usually not what you think. 👀

Most of the time it's harmless:

Traces of urine left in the urethra
A longer gap since you last ej******ed
Certain foods (asparagus, garlic, turmeric) or B-vitamin supplements

When to get it checked:

It stays yellow or turns green
It smells unpleasant
You have pain, burning or a fever
Your skin or eyes look yellow too

If any of those apply, book in with your GP or a s*xual health clinic.

Sober October starts today. 🍂
If you're taking part with fertility in mind, here's the one thing to know: s***m take roughly 64–74 days to develop, so a 31-day break doesn't complete a cycle.
Think of today as day one of 90:
🗓 October: go alcohol-free. Protect your sleep. Eat normally, with no "detox".
🗓 November–December: keep what worked. If you drink again, stay within 14 units a week with drink-free days.
🗓 January: test again, using the same method as your baseline.
Alcohol is only one piece. Over the same 90 days: don't smoke, keep a healthy weight, avoid prolonged heat around the testicles, and eat a varied diet.
⚠️ If you drink heavily most days, or get shaking, sweating, nausea or anxiety when you stop, talk to your GP before going alcohol-free.
Sober October should never replace support for alcohol dependence.

Urology Awareness Month is nearly over. What's your next step?

A home s***m test gives you private insight into volume, concentration, motility and total motile s***m count — in about 15 minutes, without sending a sample away or booking a clinic appointment.

A GP or urologist can assess symptoms, medical history and the wider factors a home test cannot diagnose.

They're not alternatives. Knowing where each one fits is what turns a month of awareness into something you actually do.

Read our urology and male fertility guide.

"Does a few pints at the weekend really affect my s***m?"
It's one of the most common questions we get, and the honest answer is less dramatic than the internet suggests.
✅ The clearest evidence links frequent or heavy drinking with poorer semen quality: lower volume, concentration and motility, and more abnormally shaped s***m. Heavy, sustained drinking can also disrupt the hormones behind s***m production.
❓ Evidence on occasional or lighter drinking is mixed. Claims like "one drink lowers your s***m count" go further than the research does.
📏 The NHS advises no more than 14 units a week, spread over three or more days. That's general health guidance, not a fertility threshold.
If you're trying for a baby, cutting down or taking a break is a reasonable precaution, especially if you often go over 14 units or drink a lot in one session.
Sober October starts Thursday. It's a good place to begin.

Does a normal s***m result rule out every fertility factor?

No.

A result within the expected range means the parameters measured in that sample — volume, concentration, motility and total motile s***m count — looked healthy on that day. S***m quality naturally varies from sample to sample, and no semen analysis can rule out every physical, hormonal or genetic factor.

So if you have symptoms, or you've been trying for a while, it's still worth speaking to a healthcare professional. A reassuring number doesn't cancel out a real concern.

Read our guide and work out your next step.

Sexual Health Week ends today. The part worth keeping is simple.

Connection starts with knowing your own body. Not guessing, not assuming you're fine because nothing feels wrong, and not waiting until there's a problem to find out.

An ExSeed test takes about 15 minutes at home, measures volume, concentration, motility and total motile s***m count, and is reviewed by our fertility experts. No clinic appointment, no sample sent away.

Know where you stand, without judgement or delay.

Whether you're trying to conceive or would want the option in the future, a male fertility test comes with a lot of benefits.

Trying to conceive can quietly change your s*x life.

Timed in*******se, ovulation apps, the sense that s*x has become a task with a deadline — plenty of couples find that pressure builds and intimacy drops. It's common, and it's rarely talked about.

A few things help: naming it out loud, protecting time together that has nothing to do with conceiving, and reducing the uncertainty where you can. Knowing your own numbers takes one unknown off the table.

It's Sexual Health Week, and this year's theme is connection.

Fertility is one of the hardest things for couples to talk about — and one of the most common places the conversation stalls. Often it's because the man in the couple has less information to bring to it. He's rarely been tested, rarely been asked, and rarely knows where he stands.

S***m health is a shared subject, not a verdict on anyone. Having something concrete to discuss makes the conversation easier for both people.

Start with what you actually know.

What is a varicocele — and what does it mean for s***m health?

A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins in the sc***um. Some men notice an ache or a feeling of heaviness. Many notice nothing at all.

Varicoceles are associated with changes in s***m concentration and motility, but having one does not mean you are infertile. Plenty of men with a varicocele conceive without any intervention.

Testing gives you useful context on where your parameters sit. Diagnosis and any treatment decision needs professional assessment.

Do you know what's normal for you?

It's common for one testicle to sit slightly lower or be a little different in size. That's usually nothing. What's worth checking is change — a new lump, swelling, a persistent ache, or a difference in shape or firmness.

Book in with your GP if you notice any of those. Sudden, severe testicular pain needs immediate medical attention, not a wait-and-see.

A s***m test can't diagnose the cause of pain or a physical change. A check-up can.

Read our testicular health guide.

Testicular pain, lumps and swelling have many possible causes. Learn which symptoms need urgent care, how they may relate to fertility and when s***m testing helps.
