Today is World Breastfeeding in Public Day. This is one of this things I imagine trying to explain to my ancestors š This is a day that needs to be marked and celebrated (because breastfeeding rates are so low) but itās also kinda wild.
Babies should be fed wherever they need to be. I donāt know what else to say.
This picture is the first I have of me feeding Winter outside, but it wasnāt the first time. I remember that SO well.
It was January, freezing, and Iād met a friend for a Covid walk in Hyde Park. I thought Winter would sleep the whole time in the soft sling but she woke up and roared, and told me to get her on the b**b quick. Except it wasnāt quick because it was so new to me, I was fumbling with the sling and all my layers, and we were being whipped by gale winds and sideways rain. But still⦠we got there. She relaxed in my arms, fell asleep and then went back in the sling for the rest of the walk.
Iāve been breastfeeding āin publicā for over 3 years combined and Iāve never once had a negative comment, Iāve had plenty of lovely reassuring smiles from women walking past, but mostly Iāve just been ignored because Iām just feeding a baby innit. š¶š»
