🔥 Smoke from nearby moorland fire – advice for residents 🔥

We’re aware of a moorland fire near Dovestones Reservoir, and smoke has been travelling across parts of Greater Manchester, with some areas noticing the smell of smoke.

If you can smell smoke where you are, please consider keeping your windows and doors closed, especially if you have:
👶 Young children at home
🌬️ Anyone with asthma or breathing difficulties
❤️ Anyone who may be more vulnerable to the effects of smoke

If you experience breathing problems that are unusual for you, please seek appropriate medical advice.

Please avoid the affected area and follow advice from emergency services while firefighters continue to deal with the incident.

🌞 Heat Health Alert – North West 🌞

The Amber Heat Health Alert has been updated and is in effect across the North West from 12:00pm on Thursday 9th July until 9:00pm on Sunday 12th July 2026.

Hot weather can affect anyone, but it can be particularly dangerous for older adults, young children, pregnant women and people with long-term health conditions.

Please remember to:
💧 Drink plenty of fluids and avoid becoming dehydrated.
🏠 Keep your home as cool as possible by closing curtains during the hottest part of the day.
🌳 Stay in the shade where you can and avoid strenuous activity during peak temperatures.
🧴 Wear sunscreen, a hat and light, loose-fitting clothing if you're outside.
👥 Check in on elderly relatives, neighbours and anyone who may be more vulnerable.

If you or someone you know becomes unwell in the heat, seek medical advice promptly.

📢 Important Update: Changes to Our Sexual Health Services

Over the past 10 years, Bodey Medical Centre has been proud to provide an enhanced sexual health service to our patients through our specially trained nurses and doctors.

Unfortunately, this enhanced service has recently been decommissioned by Public Health. As a result, we are no longer able to provide specialist sexual health testing, screening or treatment at the practice.

This change has not been made by Bodey Medical Centre and is unfortunately outside of our control. We understand that many patients have valued this service, and we appreciate that this news may be disappointing.

• Gynaecological concerns
• Reproductive and urogenital health
• Men's health concerns, including prostate, testicular and erectile problems

☀️ Heatwave Alert – Stay Safe and Well ☀️

With very hot weather expected this week, it’s important to take extra care to protect yourself and those around you from the effects of extreme heat.

🌡️ Top tips to stay safe:
✅ Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
✅ Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day (11am–3pm) where possible.
✅ Keep your home cool by closing curtains and blinds in rooms that face the sun.
✅ Wear loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing and a hat if you need to go outside.
✅ Avoid strenuous physical activity during the hottest hours.
✅ Use sunscreen and seek shade when outdoors.

💙 Please check on others
Hot weather can be particularly dangerous for older people, young children, pregnant women, and those with long-term health conditions. If you have elderly neighbours, vulnerable friends, or family members, please take a few minutes to check they are coping well, staying hydrated, and keeping cool.

⚠️ Seek urgent medical help if someone becomes confused, unresponsive, has difficulty breathing, or shows signs of severe heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

Let’s all look out for one another and stay safe during the hot weather.

New breast symptom self-referral service

Patients with worrying breast symptoms can now check if they can be referred directly to specialist hospital clinics without needing a GP appointment.

Patients can complete a short online symptom assessment via NHS 111 online. Those who meet the eligibility criteria can choose to refer themselves to the local specialist breast unit. Those who do not meet the criteria are provided with advice about where to get help.
