๐ŸŽ‰ We're celebrating the fabulous contributions that volunteers make to our group's activities for older Wythenshawe residents. Not least, our volunteer directors. They share time and expertise to steer and develop our organisation, led by WGN founder/director, Marie (pictured).

If you would like to find out about volunteering opportunities with Wythenshawe Good Neighbours, please give us a call on: 0161 905 3898 or email Samantha at: [email protected]
We'd love to hear from you. We especially need Volunteer Drivers - any amount of time you can give will be helpful to us - helping older people get from a to b locally. Thanks.

๐ŸŽ‰This Volunteers' Week we're thanking all our amazing volunteers, including Malcolm (pictured with WGN Members)! He supports our Volunteer Drivers Scheme, driving Members to our weekly Community Lunch and coffee morning, and having a positive impact on their social lives.

Malcolm said: "I enjoy giving lifts to people who wouldn't be able to get out and about without WGN's service."

For Volunteers' Week we're celebrating ๐ŸŽ‰ the fantastic support we receive from our volunteers.

First up, Debbie! She helps at our busy, weekly Community Lunch (pictured here at Northenden Social Club with WGN Member, Thomas). Debbie also gives her time to support us with Newsletter and resilience resource distribution.

Debbie says this about her volunteering role with WGN:
"During my working life, I worked in a support role for 42 years. It's now great to extend it to my retirement, and support the lovely ladies and gents at WGN - like Thomas."

Our manager, Sam is doing the Great Manchester Run tomorrow. Photos are from her last training session yesterday and race number.

Sam says: "I am really looking forward to running the Mcr 10K this Sunday. I will be running for the fifth time for Wythenshawe Good Neighbours. We are raising money to support our coach trips, ensuring our members can enjoy affordable days out. People have been very kind and donated, so thank you very much."

There's still time to donate. Click on the link here, thanks!

๐Ÿช‡๐Ÿช˜๐ŸŽถWe had a fab time with String of Hearts CIC musicians today at our Community Lunch. They brought drums, maracas, triangles and tambourines for everyone to have a go! Superb entertainment - good for lifting spirits (and keeping fit!).๐Ÿ‘They'll be joining us again in a few weeks.

We were joined at our Community Lunch today by Manchester Metropolitan University Dietetics course students. Talking to our Members about a public health campaign on healthier ageing, linked to diet. Lively discussions about the topic. We also presented FareShare Greater Manchester prizes to winners of our Newsletter quiz.
A big thanks, as ever, to Northenden Social Club for hosting and supporting our weekly lunches.

Our May Newsletter leads with exciting news about our new 'My resilience matters' resource folders for WGN Members. Other WGN news is also featured.

In addition, we have included community news such as the Wythenshawe Age Friendly Network celebration on Wednesday 10 June, called โ€˜Game For A Laughโ€™. It's a free, intergenerational event with fun, have-a-go โ€˜games through the decadesโ€™ at the Forum Library. You can read more here: https://bit.ly/3R8jZj8

Here we are on our first WGN coach trip visit to Trentham Estate in Staffordshire. We asked our Members to vote for their preferred destination for a spring day out and Trentham Gardens ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒท and Shopping Village ๐Ÿ›๏ธ won! It's a lovely day so we can make the most of exploring!

๐Ÿ“” ๐Ÿ“ข Exciting news! The new version of our 'My resilience matters' resource folder is being distributed to our WGN Members. It's one of the key benefits of being a Member of our community group.

The first version was produced as a response to the pandemic. This new folder has a cost-of-living slant and is packed with useful information on various topics that are important/ of interest to older people in Wythenshawe. Also featured are activities and support available across the local community, including our own WGN services.

The project has been a big undertaking, with input from many organisations and individuals. Our thanks to all contributors - not least, our own Members, several of whom gave insights and opinions and/or were the subjects of informative case studies.

Huge thanks๐Ÿ™to the project funders: Manchester City Council Wythenshawe (from what was the Neighbourhood Investment Fund, and is now Your Neighbourhood Fund) and Wythenshawe Community Housing Group Community Development Grants.
