Perimenopause can affect so much more than periods. Hormonal changes can influence your muscles, joints, nervous system, sleep, energy, digestion and how your body responds to stress. Osteopathy looks at the body as a whole - supporting areas such as the pelvis, lower back, ribs, neck and diaphragm to help improve comfort and mobility. Gentle, tailored treatment may help your body feel more supported through this stage of change.

It’s half term, and lots of people are heading off on holiday ✈️☀️

So here’s a little reminder from Sean on how to lift your luggage from the carousel without giving your back a nasty surprise before the holiday has even begun.

A few small tweaks can make a big difference - especially when you’re tired, juggling bags, children and passports!

Safe travels, and look after your back 💙

Gentle doesn’t mean ineffective.
In osteopathy, treatment doesn’t need to be forceful to make a difference.
Often, the most effective approach is the one that works with your body, not against it. Every person is different, so treatment should be adapted to you- your symptoms, your body, and what feels right on the day.
At The Village Osteopaths, we use a gentle, hands-on approach to help reduce pain, improve movement, and support your overall wellbeing.

Today is International ME/CFS Awareness Day.

ME/CFS - myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome - is a complex, chronic condition that can affect every part of daily life.

It is not simply “being tired”.
It is not laziness.
It is not a lack of motivation.
And it is not something someone can just push through.

One of the hallmark symptoms of ME/CFS is post-exertional malaise, often known as PEM. This means symptoms can worsen after physical, mental or emotional effort - sometimes hours or even days later.
For some people, everyday things like showering, preparing food, working, concentrating, socialising, travelling, or leaving the house can come at a real cost.

And if you know someone with ME/CFS, chances are you often see them on one of their better days. What you don’t see is the planning, resting and pacing it took to get there - or the impact afterwards, when symptoms can flare and recovery can take time.

ME/CFS symptoms are multiple and can include debilitating fatigue, unrefreshing sleep, pain, dizziness, headaches, sensory sensitivity, muscle aches, flu-like symptoms, and cognitive difficulties such as brain fog amongst many more.

ME/CFS can affect someone’s ability to work, study, care for family, maintain relationships, exercise, travel, or take part in the life they once knew. Many people also carry the extra burden of being misunderstood, dismissed, or told to “just do a little more” - when pushing through can often make symptoms worse.

There are still limited treatment options, and many people struggle to access the support and understanding they need.

At The Village Osteopaths in Timperley, near Altrincham, we see many patients living with ME/CFS, Long Covid, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and post-viral fatigue presentations, and what stands out to us is not weakness.

It is strength.

The quiet, daily strength it takes to manage symptoms, pace carefully, adapt constantly, and keep going in a world that often doesn’t fully understand.

To everyone living with ME/CFS today: we see you, we believe you, and you deserve understanding and care that respects what your body is going through 🩵

This weekend Collette and Cristina attended the 18th Annual Perrin Technique Conference in London.

The theme was “The Perrin Technique in a Functional Context”, with talks exploring ME/CFS, Long Covid, fibromyalgia, functional medicine, glymphatic function, mitochondrial health, autonomic dysfunction and future research.

It was also lovely to spend the day with Dr Raymond Perrin and other practitioners, doctors and specialists, all bringing different perspectives but sharing the same passion for supporting people living with these complex conditions.

Collette spent 13 years working in Dr Raymond Perrin’s clinic after qualifying, before bringing the Perrin Technique to The Village Osteopaths in South Manchester. Since August 2023, this specialist support has also been available at The Lytham Osteopaths on the Fylde Coast.

The timing felt especially poignant, as this week is ME Awareness Week.

At The Village Osteopaths in Timperley, South Manchester, we have specialist experience supporting people living with ME/CFS, Long Covid, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue symptoms using the Perrin Technique.

Across our two clinics - The Village Osteopaths and The Lytham Osteopaths - we now have three Perrin Technique practitioners: Collette, Cristina and Nikki.

As a team, it’s a real priority for us that our Perrin Technique practitioners stay up to date, informed and connected with new developments, research and discoveries that may help the patients we care for.

For people living with ME/CFS, Long Covid or Fibromyalgia, being understood matters. Being believed matters. And having practitioners who continue to learn, reflect and work together matters too.

We’ll be sharing more throughout ME Awareness Week about ME/CFS, Long Covid, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and The Perrin Technique.

The Perrin Technique is available at The Village Osteopaths in Timperley, South Manchester - please reach out for more information.
