Catherine Arnold Nutrition Combining functional medicine and nutritional therapy to help you understand your body, restore balance and feel your best.

Personalised, evidence-based support for better energy, digestion and long-term health. Nutritional Therapy aims to help people achieve optimum health through diet and lifestyle change. I have seen people at clinic for many health issues, asthma, allergies, autoimmune illnesses, gut health issues, high cholesterol, diabetes, insomnia, fertility, stress, PCOS, pregnancy nutrition advice, unexplained gut pain, joint pain, and more. Diet and lifestyle change takes time. Nutritional therapy is not a quick fix but if you give it time and stick with it, it can have a transformational effect on your health. Although a lot of my clients feel better very quickly, I would normally allow at least 3 months to see the effects of these positive changes, longer if I am working with someone with chronic disease. It’s like peeling the layers of an onion, working our way round the body to optimise function where we can and giving the body time, to heal itself. So for this reason, I like to work with clients over a minimum 12 week period. The 12 week programme I offer includes an initial 1 hour consultation followed by 8 x 30 minute follow up consultations spread over 12 consecutive weeks. Consultation dates and times are prearranged and you can pay either monthly or a lump sum at the beginning. Consultations take place online via skype. For details on prices, take a look at my website: https://catherinearnoldnutrition.com/what-i-do/consultations/

Or contact me on [email protected] for more details. I am a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner having studied with the Institute of Functional Medicine. More information about Functional Medicine is on my website. I am a full member of BANT (British Association for Nutrition and lifestyle medicine) and also on the CNHC (Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council) register. The Department of Health recommends that people requiring a complimentary health therapist, use CNHC registered practitioners. CNHC registration is recognised for reimbursement with some private health cash plan providers such as Health Shield & a number of specific employer plans with Westfield Health.

Research suggests kimchi and other fermented vegetables are beneficial for your health. In particular, kimchi might support your immune system to help you fight off colds and flu, preventing illness, if eaten regularly. ⁣
⁣
I recommend having a couple of tablespoons of fermented vegetables with a meal. It’s cheaper, and much better to make your own!⁣
⁣
Join me in my kitchen for a fun fermenting workshop on Sunday 18th October, 11am to 1.30pm. We will be making kimchi and fermented hot sauce, plus there is a delicious fermented lunch to follow. You will leave with all your ferments, recipes and the know how to carry on fermenting at home. Please email me for more details and to book! Limited spaces 🙏🏻 link to email me is in my bio 👌🏻

As a functional medicine practitioner, I always use private laboratory tests to understand more about my clients health. I find this is much more helpful than just guessing, and my clients are always fascinated to learn more about their body and the symptoms they are experiencing.

Most people have now heard about the microbiome, the ecosystem of bacteria living in your gut. Nutritional therapists have been talking about this for many years and it’s’ great that people are now switched on to it.

The microbiome weighs about the same as your liver and is what we call metabolically active – it plays a huge role in our health and wellbeing.

It helps breakdown our food
It plays a valuable role in our immune system
It synthesises some vitamins
It can influence our mood and our cravings

If it’s out of balance it can make us more prone to inflammation, weaken our immune system and make us more susceptible to allergies, hormonal problems, depression and mental health issues, cancers, autoimmune disease, even Parkinsons disease is linked to certain species of bacteria that can reside in our gut.

What you consume impacts whether you have a healthy microbiome or not, diet, alcohol, medications, and stress can all affect it for the better or worse…

My feed is full of things that help support a healthy microbiome, fermented foods being a favourite because they contain beneficial bacteria and other metabolites which support your bacteria friends living in your gut.

If you want to know more about what’s living in your gut so you know how best to support it then you might want to do a stool test. I work with private laboratories which do amazing tests that map out your microbiome – good and bad for you to understand more. These tests are not available on the NHS sadly.

Get in touch if you are keen to support your gut health and don’t know where to start. Check the link in my bio for the water kefir recipe which is perfect for the hot weather!

I have been working as a Nutritional Therapist for 13 years. Previously I worked as a TV producer/director and series producer of documentaries. But I gave it all up and retrained after I discovered the power of nutrition when my husband became seriously ill with leukaemia. ⁣
⁣
I work a lot with gut health and am always astounded by how long people put up with gut symptoms that impact their life before seeking help. Please don’t normalise symptoms such as constipation, loose stools, painful hard to pass stools, indigestion and bloating as these are signs of sub optimal gut health. Poor gut health impacts your overall health and is linked to depression, period and menopause problems, anxiety, inflammatory disorders, autoimmune disease and even cancer. ⁣
⁣
Sign up to my Gut Matters newsletter where I talk more about gut health and practical ways to optimise it. There’s also a new blog post on my website about ‘What your poo can tell you’!⁣

Thrilled to be back in Ibiza this week for ❤️🙏🏻
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
When my client asked me to work on a wellness retreat as part of back in 2018, the music industry was in need of some support. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Musicians are 3 times more likely to suffer with depression than the general population. It’s certainly an exciting and creative career but it’s also an industry where there can be a lot of things that work against living a healthy life. I know this having witnessed my husbands health decline back in 2007 when he⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣was diagnosed with leukaemia. We didn’t believe it was ‘just bad luck, that he became ill, as the doctors suggested. Paul knew his lifestyle as a DJ, club promoter, record label and DJ agency owner had pushed him over the edge. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
This is the 9th year of Arete, an amazing offering of wellness to the industry. The lineup of talks are incredible (well done and 👏👏) and there are now consultations in not only nutrition but now Ayurveda and also addiction counselling with the legendary team at 🙌🏻. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Plus there are amazing workshops with talented practitioners like , 🤩
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
My talk this year is about the gut brain connection and how the food you eat influences your mind. 🧠 one of my favourite subjects! As usual I will be offering FREE 30 minute consultations for all delegates. If you are attending please email me to book in as spaces are limited! See you there 🙏🏻
