🐘✨ HAPPY GANESH CHATURTHI ✨🐘
A celebration of new beginnings, wisdom & removing obstacles
Have you ever heard of Ganesha?
For many people here in the UK, Ganesha may be a figure they've seen in artwork or statues without knowing the beautiful meaning behind him.
Ganesha is one of the most beloved and widely recognised deities in Hinduism. He is traditionally shown with the head of an elephant and the body of a human, and is known as a deity associated with wisdom, learning, prosperity, good fortune and the removal of obstacles.
He is traditionally described as the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
🌿 But what makes Ganesha so fascinating?
His appearance itself carries symbolism.
🐘 The elephant head is associated with wisdom, intelligence and understanding.
👂 His large ears can remind us to listen carefully — perhaps to others, but also to our own inner wisdom.
🐭 His tiny mouse vehicle is a beautiful contrast to his enormous form. In traditional imagery, the mouse represents something small that can move into places others cannot. Ganesha's association with the mouse and with obstacles has inspired many different interpretations of overcoming difficulties and keeping things that might trouble us under control.
And perhaps the most beautiful message of all...
Ganesha is traditionally invoked at the beginning of new ventures, journeys and important undertakings.
So Ganesh Chaturthi can be a wonderful opportunity to pause and think about what we would like to begin, what we would like to overcome, and what we are ready to leave behind.
Maybe you're starting a new job.
Maybe you're beginning a creative project.
Maybe you're making changes in your personal life.
Or perhaps your new beginning is simply deciding to look at yourself and your life a little differently.
Sometimes a new beginning doesn't require us to know exactly where we're going.
We simply need to take the first step. 🌿✨
💜 A little thought for today:
What obstacle are you ready to release?
What new beginning are you ready to welcome?
Take a quiet moment, breathe, and set an intention for the path ahead.
🙏 A traditional Ganesha mantra
Om Gan Ganapataye Namah
This is a traditional mantra of reverence to Ganesha — essentially an invocation honouring Ganapati/Ganesha.
You don't have to follow a particular faith or tradition to appreciate the beautiful reminder behind it:
May we move forward with wisdom.
May obstacles become opportunities to learn.
And may the path ahead become a little clearer. ✨
Take what resonates with you and leave what doesn't. 💜
