With everything going on this week, I haven't had the chance to say how pleased I am to have successfully completed my certification in

Training Menopausal and Peri-Menopausal Women.

As a fitness professional, I've always been passionate that learning never stops. Despite all my years of experience, the more knowledge and understanding I continue to gather, the better I can support my clients through every stage of life and health.

Menopause and peri-menopause can bring significant physical and emotional changes, and evidence-based exercise can have an important part to play in the management of symptoms, maintaining strength, supporting good bone health, improving confidence, and enhancing overall wellbeing.

This further qualification forms part of my ongoing commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and reflects my commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards through my CIMSPA endorsement and accreditation.

I've always been passionate about providing safe, inclusive, and effective exercise guidance for all, and I'm looking forward to putting this additional knowledge into practice to support both existing and future clients.

Thank you for all of the kind messages I've received from many of you, following my Addison's Crisis and my hospital admission. You are all very kind! I'm on a robust drug plan now and hopefully if I continue to improve, I can be back PT-ing on Friday. But unfortunately, no classes for me this week 😞.
Addison's Disease is such a complex condition, particularly if you're doing so much fitness πŸ’ͺ. When your body doesn't produce vital hormones and chemicals , you have to second guess anything that may need an increase, when normal bodies do it automatically. Every day has the potential to put you in crisis πŸ’™

I've always said about the benefits of resistance training and now there is new evidence that a couple of sessions of strength training a week could help reduce the risk of dying early, (according to research highlighted by the BBC)

Whether it's weights, resistance bands, or bodyweight exercises, building strength doesn't require hours in the gym. A couple of sessions each week could benefit your health and help you stay stronger for longer.

Cardio activity has great benefits for heart health, fitness, our mood, and the expenditure of calories. However, it is an old fashioned and outdated idea that relying on cardio alone for fat loss is the most effective approach.

Research consistently shows reports that combining:
Strength training
Good nutrition
Daily movement AND Appropriate cardiovascular exercise is far more effective for our long-term body composition and health than hours of β€œpure cardio” alone.

Resistance training helps preserve and build lean muscle tissue, which supports metabolism and overall strength as you lose body fat.

Excessive cardio without enough strength work can sometimes lead to muscle loss alongside fat loss.

We often become fixated on becoming lighter but really our goal should be to become stronger, healthier, and more functional.

As a qualified and experienced fitness professional, I always encourage balanced, sustainable training rather than punishment-based exercise. Fitness should support your body, not exhaust it.πŸ’ͺ

Not everybody in life stays with you for the whole journey, sometimes they appear all but briefly in your life but shine a light so brightly that they can make the biggest impact on you.

Often they appear when you need them most, change something inside you, and then quietly move on.

I believe the length of time they are here never measures the depth of the impact they can make.

45 years ago today my guardian angel passed away, when I was just 8 years old and yet, I remember everything about her, as if she had only just stepped into the room next door.

Olcote Wellbeing, a little behind the scenes…

Staying in shape, managing two complex and challenging health conditions and running a business isn’t always glamorous β€” it’s early starts, late finishes, planning, keeping up-to-date with continuous learning and development, coming up with choreography, fitness plans tailored to every client's goal, class plans, nutrition plans and counselling advice. And then there's the admin and accounting! 😱 So that's why I only get about 4 hours sleep πŸ€”πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

One minute I could be training a PT client in the gym or at home, the next instructing a class to do the rumba, HIIT, Yoga, Pilates, resistance work or aerobic exercise, then I could be advising a nutrition client or working with a clinical client for rehabilitation. Or I could be discussing health and fitness for menopause.

A lot of years ago, I took the plunge and jumped off the treadmill of employment and started my own little business. Olcote Wellbeing (Our Little Corner of The Earth) It's hard work, you're on your own and in the back of your mind you know that it could all end tomorrow 😱 But I genuinely enjoy helping people make progress and hit goals and feel different and get to see what a change THEY can make !πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺβ€” that’s what makes it worth it πŸ’™
