๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿณ With an increase in salmonella cases linked to imported eggs, we're sharing some important advice to help you stay safe and know what to do if you become unwell. โฌ‡๏ธ

๐Ÿฅš Nearly 500 people have become ill with salmonella. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is investigating, with cases linked to imported eggs.

To reduce your risk:
โ€ข Look for eggs with the British Lion mark or those produced under the Laid in Britain egg assurance scheme
โ€ข Avoid raw or undercooked eggs, particularly when eating out if youโ€™re unsure where the eggs are from

For most fit and healthy people, salmonella infection will get better on its own within a few days. However, it can cause more serious illness in vulnerable people.

Symptoms usually develop 12โ€“72 hours after infection and can include:
๐Ÿคข Diarrhoea
๐Ÿค• Stomach cramps
๐Ÿคฎ Vomiting
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Fever

If you develop symptoms, drink plenty of fluids to help prevent dehydration. It is better to avoid anti-diarrhoeal medicines if you can.

If you're concerned about your symptoms, contact your GP, visit 111 online 111.nhs.uk, or call 111 out of hours.

๐Ÿž Tick Awareness: Stay Safe Outdoors ๐ŸŒฟโ˜€๏ธ

Ticks are commonly found in long grass, woodland, heathland and areas where wildlife and livestock may be present. While most tick bites are harmless, some ticks can carry infections such as Lyme disease.

โœ… Help reduce your risk:
๐Ÿ‘ฃ Keep to paths where possible and avoid walking through long grass.
๐Ÿ‘– Wear long sleeves and trousers when outdoors. Light-coloured clothing can make ticks easier to spot.
๐Ÿงด Use insect repellent on exposed skin and clothing.
๐Ÿ”Ž Check yourself, children and pets for ticks after spending time outdoors, paying particular attention to behind the knees, around the waist, in the groin area and under the arms.

โœ… If you find a tick:
โ€ข Remove it as soon as possible using a tick removal tool or fine-tipped tweezers.
โ€ข Grasp the tick close to the skin and pull upwards slowly and steadily.
โ€ข Clean the bite area with soap and water.

โš ๏ธ After a tick bite, watch for symptoms such as a circular or "bullseye" rash, fever, fatigue, muscle aches or flu-like symptoms. If you develop any of these symptoms, contact your GP practice or NHS 111 for advice.

For further information, including how to remove a tick safely, watch the UK Health Security Agency video: ๐ŸŽฅ

25/08/2026

๐Ÿ“ฃNearly 4 million women will be offered HPV self-testing kits if they have not attended cervical screening appointments following invitations from the NHS in England.

The NHS is starting to roll out the new self-testing kits from today to encourage more women to complete their potentially lifesaving screening to detect human papillomavirus (HPV), which can increase the risk of cervical cancer.

The self-testing kit contains a swab, similar to a long cotton bud, which is used to collect a sample from the va**na. The sample is then posted back to the NHS for free, where it is checked for high-risk HPV.

Millions of women in England are to be offered HPV self-testing kits as the new service rolls out from today.

The kits will be offered to those who havenโ€™t attended cervical screening following previous invitations, providing a discreet and convenient way to test for high-risk HPV at home.
