Hope Prevails Preston attended the relaunch of Freeya (Formerly SHE: Support Her Empowerment) along with the Madame Mayor of Preston and Maura Jackson The Feather Fixer (officially the fastest raffle caller in the North!) and many other wonderful supporters.

Freeya is a peer led mental health support group for women. A safe, supportive space to connect, share, and be heard.

We were blown away by the passion and power in the room and can't WAIT to stand with Freeya when they come to Preston for their group launch on July 8th (more details to follow)

In the meantime, here are a few pictures from the night 💕👭🏼

There really is an utter power in the collective and that was evident in the room last night where there was so much strength, kindness and love, wherever you looked 🥰

Go give them a follow 🙌

Talk about finishing the week on a high!

We are incredibly proud to share that Hope Prevails Preston has been named a finalist in the national Enterprise Vision Awards Not For Profit category 🥳😱

This recognition reflects the courage of the people and families we support, and the dedication of our team who work tirelessly to create safer futures every single day.

We don’t do this work for awards, but it really does matter to see it recognised on a national stage. It amplifies the voices of those we serve and shines a light on the urgent need for change 🙏

Commissioner visits Preston project helping women and girls feel safe 📍

Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw visited Preston-based project “Safe To Soar” which is supporting women and girls to feel safer and more confident in their communities.

The Commissioner met with the partners behind the programme to hear first-hand how it’s helping to prevent crime and support those most at risk.

Backed by the Commissioner’s Community Safety Partnership (CSP) Fund, which reinvests proceeds of crime into Lancashire, and delivered in collaboration with Preston City Council, the project equips women, girls, and vulnerable groups with practical personal safety skills, builds confidence, and provides trauma-informed support.

With the support of Hope Prevails Preston, Lancashire Women, Lancashire Police and The Foxton, it delivers workshops and courses to help participants stay safe and manage risk.

Great to be standing together 💪

On Bank Holiday Monday, our Chair Gemma Morris proudly joined the walk in Preston to support the campaign against violence against women and girls. 🩵

Hosted by Girls Who Walk Preston and Girls Who Walk Chorley, more than 70 people came together at Avenham and Miller Parks before walking across Preston’s newly opened Tram Bridge and finishing at the Belvedere.

Local Lancashire women's groups united to stand alongside Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner’s campaign to raise awareness and push for change.

Gemma spoke with Sam from the Lancashire Evening Post, sharing why this message matters so deeply:

“I feel like it’s vital now that we get this message out there for young boys and men.”

Gemma spoke bravely about her own experiences of coming to Lancashire through a refuge with her two children, and how, despite building a safe life here, the fear many women and girls still feel in their communities remains very real.

She also highlighted the importance of groups like these walks, saying they create safe spaces for women to have real conversations without fear of judgement.

The event follows a Lancashire-wide survey of more than 4,500 women and girls which revealed: • 93% modify their daily behaviour to avoid danger • 91% cross the street to avoid men • 78% have felt unsafe in the past year

We are proud to stand with our community and support campaigns that encourage safety, awareness and open conversations. Together, we can help heard. 🩵

You can leave an abusive relationship and still carry the impact every single day.

Self-doubt.
Confusion.
Fear.
Financial fallout.
Parenting pressure.
Court processes.
Co-parenting with someone who harmed you.

That is the true impact of abuse.

Own My Life is not about asking women to “move on”. It is about understanding what happened.

Understanding trauma.
Power.
Control.
Entitlement.
Recovery.
Systems.
Survival.

Because understanding changes self-blame. And self-blame has stolen enough.

Starting in June through Hope Prevails Preston. In person group work in central Preston. Open to Lancashire wide for 12 weeks.

For years, domestic abuse responses have often centred around one question:

“What does she need to do to be safer?”

Leave.
Hide.
Change routines.
Document evidence.
Move house.
Start again.

Meanwhile…

The person choosing abuse often stays in the same job. Same community. Same social circle.
And … the cycle continues with somebody new. Somebody who thinks he has a crazy ex 🤦‍♀️

We need to ask harder questions.

What if we stopped placing the majority of responsibility onto women to escape abuse?

What if accountability became more than a word?

What if education and sisterhood changed everything?

Something different is coming to Preston.

Own My Life!

Hope Prevails Preston is switching it up💪

Myth Busting Monday

Kindness doesn’t cancel out harm and abuse is not defined by isolated moments. It’s about the overall impact on how someone feels, their safety and their sense of self.

In some relationships, hurtful behaviour is followed by warmth, apologies or affection. This can make it difficult to trust your own feelings or recognise patterns over time.

If any of this feels familiar, you are not alone. Hope Prevails Preston supports anyone aged 16+ in the Preston area who is experiencing fear, harm or control in their relationships.

You can call our helpline on 01772 201601 or submit a self referral form here: https://forms.gle/RMGTJtwuLK9ew3336

We'll be walking with our friends at Girls Who Walk Preston and Girls Who Walk Chorley as part of this initiative to raise awareness and highlight the everyday harassment that forces too many women to change how, when and where they live their lives.

Come and join us (whether you're a runner or a walker!) as we link arms with our communities 💪

Why and when walkers and runners will unite at Preston's Avenham Park to send a message about violence

The Preston Sanctuary Scheme helps people affected by domestic abuse to stay safe in their own homes, so they don’t have to face the disruption and distress of moving away from everything they know.

Through tailored security measures, we support women, men and children who continue to experience threats or fear after leaving an abusive relationship helping them remain close to their families, friends, schools and local support networks.

You may be eligible if you:

✔ Are no longer in an abusive relationship but still receive threats or harassment
✔ Live within Preston City Council boundaries
✔ Have the legal right to occupy your home (own or rent)

For more information or to apply call our helpline on 01772 201601 or submit a self referral form to us via our website www.hopeprevails.org.uk
