You can ask questions before making a decision.

Many families start exploring care long before they are ready to arrange regular visits.

That is completely reasonable.

You might want to understand how visits work, what support is available, how care fits around your parent’s routine, or what happens if their needs change later.

Good care planning begins with listening. It should give your family clear information, not pressure.

Ask the questions now, even if you are only starting to think about care.

Hello, June 🌿

June is here, bringing brighter mornings, softer evenings, and the gentle feeling of summer beginning.

We hope the month ahead brings time for familiar routines, friendly conversations, family moments, and a little fresh air when the weather allows.

Familiar routines can bring real comfort to each day.

With consistent care at home, simple moments like breakfast, activities, and bedtime can feel easier, more enjoyable, and something to look forward to.

Simple changes at home can make everyday life feel easier.

Creating an easy-to-reach spot for essentials like glasses, keys, chargers, and medication can bring more ease and reassurance to daily routines.

It’s a quick step that helps everything feel more organised, more comfortable, and easier to manage.

Small changes really can make a big difference.

Why not give it a try this week?

A little extra support can make everyday life feel easier.

With live-in care, there’s the comfort of consistent, one-to-one support at home.

It means familiar routines can continue, confidence can grow, and families can feel reassured knowing someone is always there.

Helping your loved one stay safe, settled, and living well in the place they know best.

We attended the Dying to Know event last night and it was such a lovely evening. It was wonderful to connect with so many people who are passionate about supporting others through later life, care, loss, and planning ahead.

A special thank you to Claire Vickery - All Your Love Celebrant for hosting such an important and welcoming event, and it was great to spend time with Claire and Jodie from Cedar Lodge Care Home - EQ Care Group, as well as Francesca from the Reading Death Collective.

These events are brilliant at opening up conversations that many people often avoid, helping families feel more informed, supported, and less alone when it comes to discussing care, end-of-life wishes, grief, and future planning.

Creating safe spaces for honest conversations like these really does make such a difference in our community.

Choosing support is a positive step for you and your parent.

With a little extra help at home, daily life can feel more settled and manageable for everyone.

Your parent receives consistent, reliable care, while you have more time to simply enjoy being together.

It’s about making care feel easier, more balanced, and something the whole family can feel confident in.

Start with one conversation. It could make all the difference.

👟 We’re taking on the 15,000 Steps a Day in June challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support! 💚

As a team at Home Instead Reading, we see every day how cancer affects not only individuals, but also families and loved ones around them. We wanted to come together to raise awareness, support an amazing charity, and help make a difference however we can.

Throughout June, our office team, Julie, Sarah, and Ellie, will be walking 15,000 steps a day to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Every step helps support people living with cancer and the families who need them most.

If you would like to support us, donate, share this post, or cheer us on, we would be incredibly grateful 💚

Tomorrow evening, we’ll be taking the time to attend and support this very special community event, Dying to Know.

At Home Instead, we know how important it is for people and families to feel informed, supported, and confident when having conversations around later life, care, loss, and future wishes, even though they can often feel difficult to start.

This event brings together professionals with very different experiences and perspectives to help open up those conversations in an honest, compassionate, and practical way.

Please do pop along if you can

A little more about who will be in the room at ‘Dying to Know’…

Because this isn’t just one perspective - it’s a conversation from four different angles.

Between us, we see what happens when someone dies from very different sides - and that matters.

As a celebrant, I work closely with families at one of the most difficult times in their lives - creating ceremonies that reflect the person at the centre, and seeing first-hand the questions people wish they’d asked sooner.

Bruce, from Tomalin & Son Funeral Director a local independent funeral director, brings decades of experience supporting families through loss - offering a clear, honest view of what actually happens after someone dies, and the choices people often don’t realise they have.

Grant at Kept Assets works in estate planning, and came into it through personal experience - after the unexpected death of his brother. He now helps people put clear, robust plans in place, so things don’t unravel when they matter most.

And Louisa Nicoll, our guest speaker, brings a different perspective again - with a background in nursing across hospice, hospital, and community settings, alongside her own personal experience of loss. Her work focuses on helping people understand their options, ask the right questions, and feel more confident having conversations about care and future wishes.

Together, it’s a much more complete picture than most people ever get access to.
