๐จ NHS Scam Alert: Fake NHS App Registration Calls ๐จ
We are urging residents to stay vigilant following reports of scam phone calls claiming to be from the NHS.
โ๏ธ Victims receive a call, often from a mobile number beginning with 07, featuring a recorded message advising them to press a button to keep access to their GP or local practitioner and to set up a "new NHS mobile app".
โ ๏ธ Remember:
โ
The NHS will never cold call you asking you to press buttons to keep access to your GP services.
โ
Scammers may try to obtain personal information, banking details, passwords, or security codes.
โ
Phone numbers can be spoofed, making calls appear genuine.
โ
Fraudsters often create a sense of urgency to pressure people into acting quickly.
๐ก๏ธ How to Protect Yourself
โข Contact your GP surgery directly using a trusted number if you are concerned.
โข Do not press any buttons during unexpected calls.
โข Hang up immediately if you are unsure who is calling.
โข Never share personal, financial, or security information over the phone.
โข Talk to friends, family members, and vulnerable relatives about scam awareness.
โ If You Have Already Engaged with the Caller
โข Contact your bank immediately if you shared any personal or financial information.
โข Monitor your accounts for unusual activity.
โข Report the incident to Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online at www.reportfraud.police.uk.
