Dr. Rod Waddington PhD brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role as a leader of volunteers at the Safe Space Wellbeing Lab. With over three decades of experience in academia, including teaching at Teachers Training Colleges and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) colleges, Dr. Waddington has expertise in various disciplines, including Religious Studies, Ethics, Philosophy, and Educational Psychology. As an accomplished author, Dr. Waddington has contributed to journals and books internationally, showcasing his deep understanding and insights into his areas of expertise. Additionally, his participation in conferences both in the UK and South Africa highlights his commitment to staying abreast of the latest developments in his field and sharing his knowledge with others. In his previous role managing the HR Department at the TVET college, Dr. Waddington demonstrated his dedication to the well-being and development of staff members, spearheading initiatives aimed at enhancing their training and professional growth. This experience underscores his passion for supporting individuals in reaching their full potential and maintaining their mental health and well-being. In his current role at the Safe Space Wellbeing Lab, Dr. Waddington is responsible for counseling and training, leveraging his extensive background in education and psychology to provide valuable support to individuals seeking assistance. His leadership ensures that the lab's services are grounded in evidence-based practices and tailored to meet the unique needs of its clients. Dr. Waddington's expertise and commitment contribute significantly to the lab's mission of empowering the Tameside community to thrive mentally and emotionally. Peter Etchells is a valuable member of the Safe Space Wellbeing Lab team, bringing a unique perspective and expertise in peer support to the organization. As a lifelong resident of Manchester with lived experience of mental health challenges, Peter's personal journey enriches his understanding and empathy for others facing similar struggles. Peter's dedication to supporting others is evident through his participation in numerous courses on mental health, which have equipped him with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively provide peer support. His close connections with local mental health charities and services, including MIND, Minds Matter, the Anthony Seddon Fund, and the Health and Wellbeing College in Ashton-under-Lyne, demonstrate his commitment to collaboration and community engagement in addressing mental health needs. By leveraging his lived experience and extensive network of resources, Peter plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment at the Safe Space Wellbeing Lab. His expertise in peer support not only provides individuals with a trusted source of guidance and understanding but also promotes empowerment and resilience within the community.
