Last week, Fiona and Zoe from The Exchange team attended the British Association of Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People Scotland conference, where they delivered a presentation focused on practical strategies to support pupils experiencing anxiety and stress 💛

The session explored approaches used within our work to help children and young people feel safer, more regulated and better supported within educational environments. It was a valuable opportunity to share ideas, connect with professionals and contribute to important conversations around emotional wellbeing in schools.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for such a welcoming and thoughtful event.

Some children hold it together all day at school… only to completely unravel the moment they get home.

Not because home is the problem, but because it’s the first place they finally feel safe enough to let go.

The Exchange and Neuropathways Clinic are coming together for an important online session exploring after school restraint collapse and why so many neurodivergent children and young people experience emotional exhaustion, overwhelm, meltdowns or shutdowns after the school day ends.

This workshop will help families better understand what’s happening beneath the surface, why these patterns occur, and practical ways to support children more compassionately and effectively at home.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering “Why are they fine at school but falling apart at home?” this session is for you.

The purpose of the ASN Parent Night at Johnstone High School was to present the school’s support systems and partnership resources available for pupils with additional support needs who will be transitioning from primary school after summer. Moving to a much larger school with new teachers and subjects can be especially challenging for pupils with additional support needs, often leading to feelings of apprehension and anxiety as they adjust to these changes.

The event also served to introduce young people and their parents to key staff members, who will provide significant support and act as primary contacts when needed. This occasion enabled parents and pupils to engage directly with school staff and representatives from partner services, such as our own, allowing them to ask questions and establish initial connections.

Parents were already familiar with The Exchange Counselling and its services through previous involvement at the primary level, and expressed reassurance regarding the continuity of these services into high school. It was beneficial to connect with both pupils and parents, providing them with a detailed overview of the support and services available, which appeared to be positively received.

In conjunction with transition days, this event aims to help both parents and pupils feel more confident and informed about what to expect as they join their new school community.
