CSO IN PRACTICE | MONALISA KAPINGA

WHAT DOES DCB0129 LOOK LIKE IN PRACTICE?

For Clinical Safety Officer and pharmacist Monalisa Kapinga, it recently meant supporting a modular NHS data and analytics tool and helping to build its clinical safety approach from the ground up.

Acting as the named Clinical Safety Officer, Monalisa has been delivering the core DCB0129 manufacturer clinical safety documentation, including;

→ Clinical Risk Management Plan → Hazard Log → Clinical Safety Case Report

But clinical safety isn’t simply about producing documents.

Monalisa also ran a structured clinical hazard identification workshop with the team to identify and assess potential clinical risks across the platform’s different modules, including its GenAI-enabled functionality.

This is where the role of the Clinical Safety Officer becomes very real.

It means bringing together clinical expertise, technology, risk management and patient safety to understand not only how a digital health product is designed to work, but where potential clinical harm could arise and how those risks should be managed.

Monalisa brings her background as a pharmacist into that process, providing a clinical perspective while supporting a fast-moving health-tech platform to work towards NHS clinical safety standards.

Across healthcare, people carry responsibility every day, for patients, for clinical decisions, for safety, for colleagues and for the systems people depend on.

But behind every role, qualification and professional responsibility is a person.

Someone can be the person everyone relies on and still be struggling themselves.

This year’s World Su***de Prevention Day theme is Changing the Narrative on Su***de, with a simple but important call to action:

Start the conversation.

Notice when someone seems different.

Ask, “Are you really OK?”

Listen without judgement.

And help them find the right support when they need it.

NHS England is currently reviewing both Clinical Risk Management Standards, with the consultation closing on 11 September 2026.

And the timing matters.

Digital health has moved quickly. AI-supported clinical decisions, interconnected systems, voice technologies and machine learning are increasingly part of healthcare delivery, and the standards need to remain relevant to the environments they’re being applied in.

NHS England is particularly seeking input from people with current experience or knowledge of DCB0129 and DCB0160.
