🛡️ The importance of safety for older people with ICH in Cornwall 🛡️

🌟 June is National Safety Month, a time to remember how important it is to keep older people safe, supported and confident in their own homes. As mobility, balance or health needs change, small risks can become more significant and pose greater threats. This can be mitigated by putting simple safety measures in place.

💛 At In Caring Hands (ICH) in Cornwall, our carers work closely with each person to help them stay safe day‑to‑day. This includes supporting steady movement around the home, reducing fall risks, checking that walkways are clear, and helping with the safe use of equipment or mobility aids.

👀 We also encourage our service users to report any changes in their health, including new aches, dizziness, skin changes, or anything that feels unusual. Early conversations with a GP or nurse can prevent small concerns from becoming bigger issues.

💊 Safety also means supporting our older people with medication routines, hydration, and gentle daily activities, to help them feel secure, organised and well.

☀️🔥 Skin Cancer Awareness Month at ICH in Cornwall 🔥☀️

🌞 May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, a timely reminder of how important it is to protect our skin at every age. Sun damage can happen even on cloudy days in the UK, and sunburn significantly increases the risk of skin cancer, especially for older adults whose skin may be thinner and more sensitive.

💛 At In Caring Hands (ICH) in Cornwall, our carers encourage our service users to stay safe in the sun. It is recommend to use a broad‑spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher with 4‑star UVA protection), covering up with hats and light layers, and avoiding the strongest sun between 11am and 3pm whenever possible.

👀 We also support our service users to notice and report any changes to their skin, such as new moles, patches, or marks that change in size, shape or colour. Early detection is one of the most effective ways to treat skin cancer, and regular check‑ups with a GP or nurse can make a real difference.

🏡 Whether someone enjoys time in the garden, a gentle walk, or simply sitting by a sunny window, our carers help them stay protected, hydrated and comfortable, making the most of the warmer months while keeping skin health a priority.

🛡️ Vaccinations and safety for older people with ICH 🛡️

🧡 For the older people we support at In Caring Hands (ICH), staying safe, healthy and protected from illness is essential. Many live with long‑term conditions or reduced immunity, which means infections can have a much greater impact.

🤏 Even small changes in health or environment can quickly become serious, which is why our carers take a careful, personalised approach every day, offering steady support, gentle reassurance and practical help that keeps daily life safe and manageable.

💉 This World Immunisation Week, 24th to 30th April 2026, we’re placing extra focus on vaccinations. For older adults, staying up to date with key vaccines is one of the most effective ways to prevent serious illness. In the UK, depending on age and health status, this includes protection against flu, pneumonia, shingles, and COVID‑19, all of which can cause severe complications in later life.

🤝 If you’re looking for compassionate, reliable home care for an older loved one in Cornwall, our ICH team is here to support you with kindness, consistency and confidence.

🧠 ICH supporting older people with Parkinson’s Disease 🧠

👴👵 At In Caring Hands (ICH) in Cornwall, we support older people including those living with Parkinson’s disease. Our aim is to keep them safe, comfortable and confident while still living in their own homes.

💁‍♀️ Parkinson’s can affect movement, balance, speech and daily routines and even small changes can feel challenging without the right support. Our carers help with mobility, medication prompts, safe movement around the home, and practical daily activities that are always at a pace that feels reassuring and confidence giving.

🌼 During Parkinson’s Awareness Month this April, our carers are focusing on the importance of calm routines, clear communication and gentle, steady support. We work closely with families to reduce stress, prevent falls, and make everyday tasks feel more manageable.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 For families helping care for older loved ones, simple steps like reducing clutter, allowing extra time, and keeping routines predictable can make a meaningful difference.

🤝 If you’re looking for compassionate, reliable home care for an older loved one, our Cornwall team is here to help you navigate the journey with confidence and kindness.

🎉 April Fools’ Day: Joy for the young at heart 🎉

1️⃣ As April Fools’ Day arrives, we’re celebrating something truly special at In Caring Hands (ICH): the simple joy of having fun at any age. Laughter isn’t just for the young, it’s also for the young at heart, and that includes so many of the older people we support.

🥰 While we don’t play tricks or pranks, we do encourage light‑hearted fun. Shared laughter, gentle activities, walks in the fresh air, or games that bring joy. This is what lifts the spirits and brightens every day.

🏡 Our carers know that wellbeing isn’t only about practical support. It’s also about connection, companionship, and helping people continue to enjoy the world around them - that’s the ICH way.

🤗 Connection, comfort, and care for older people at Home 🤗

🗓️ As March comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the quiet, meaningful connections that make caring for older people in their own home so special.

🏡 At In Caring Hands (ICH), we support our service users with warmth, patience, and dignity. It’s the small moments, a shared smile, a familiar routine, a gentle conversation, that help someone feel secure, valued, and truly at ease.

👵 Every person we support has their own story, their own pace, and their own way of finding comfort. Our carers take time to notice the little things: the way someone likes their tea, the music that brings them calm, the reassurance they need when the day feels overwhelming.

💝 Home‑care is built on trust, and trust grows through kindness. It’s in the consistency of a familiar face, the respect shown in every interaction, and the understanding that feeling secure at home is one of the greatest comforts of all.

🌟 Looking for support at home? If you or a loved one is looking for compassionate carers to provide support at home in the St Austell area, we’re here to help.
