We had a brilliant time at the Heart of the Community event last week! 💜

It was great to connect with so many local organisations, build new relationships, and showcase the work we do across our communities.

We love getting out and about and connecting with partners across the region. If you're hosting an event and think we'd be a good fit for a table, we'd love to hear from you. Send us a direct message with the details!

🔦 Substance Use Card Spotlight: Ketamine

Our Substance Use Cards provide quick, clear information about a range of drugs and alcohol, helping people understand the effects, risks and ways to reduce harm.

This week's spotlight is Ketamine.

Ketamine is a powerful dissociative drug that can affect perception, coordination and awareness of your surroundings. While some people take ketamine for its relaxing or hallucinogenic effects, use can also carry serious risks, including accidents, memory problems, bladder damage and overdose, particularly when mixed with other substances.

Understanding the facts can help people make informed choices and reduce harm.

The Adventures of the Recovery Clog 💜👣

Throughout Recovery Month, our Recovery Clog travelled far and wide. It joined us at the Recovery Sofa, took part in the Recovery Games, and even made it to the top of one of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks!

The clog holds a special meaning for the people we support, our peer mentors, and our staff. It represents the idea that every person has their own journey and story. As the saying goes, "Don't judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes."

By taking the time to listen, understand someone's experiences, and support their hopes for the future, we can help challenge stigma and build compassion. Every recovery journey is unique, and every story deserves to be heard. 💜

🧠 Brain
Can affect memory, concentration, mood, and decision-making.
❤️ Heart
May increase blood pressure and put extra strain on your heart.
😴 Sleep
Can make it easier to fall asleep but often reduces sleep quality.
🍔 Weight
Alcohol can be high in calories and contribute to weight gain.
🫁 Mental Wellbeing
Can increase feelings of anxiety, stress, or low mood.
🍺 Liver
Regular heavy drinking can damage the liver over time.
🦴 Coordination
Can affect balance, reaction times, and increase the risk of injury.

Can cause indigestion, acid reflux, nausea, and stomach discomfort.

These are just a few of the ways alcohol can affect your body and wellbeing. Everyone's experience is different, and alcohol can impact people in many other ways too.
