Running a desert ultra? Don’t just buy a bigger shoe!
It’s easy to assume that because your feet swell during a long, hot race, you simply need to go up a size.
But bigger isn’t always better.
Your shoes need enough room for your feet to swell, while still giving you control and stability. Too much length can actually create problems, particularly on uneven terrain.
A good starting point? When standing in your race socks, make sure there’s around a thumb’s width between your longest toe and the front of the shoe.
And remember, your longest toe isn’t necessarily your big toe!
🏃♀️ Getting your footwear right can make a huge difference to your comfort and blister prevention.
