Meet Debra from CARA Counselling Training 👋

If you’re new to our page, let me introduce myself.

I’m Debra, Director of CARA Counselling Training, and one of the tutors on our Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

The Level 4 Diploma is a two-year course for students who have already completed Levels 2 and 3 — and it can be genuinely life-changing.

Yes, you can become a qualified counsellor at the end of the course, but the journey is about so much more than gaining a qualification.

It invites you to:
✨ Grow in self-awareness
✨ Challenge old ways of thinking
✨ Develop your counselling skills
✨ Learn more about yourself and others
✨ Be stretched both personally and professionally

It is a full-on course and it asks a lot of both students and tutors.

But when you allow yourself to grow, reflect and embrace the challenges, it can be an incredible experience. 💜

Perhaps I’ll see you on one of my courses in the future!

Integrity is more than a value we talk about.

It is what happens when our words, our beliefs, and our actions begin to line up.

In counselling, congruence is such an important part of the relationship.

It asks us to be honest with ourselves.

To notice when something does not feel aligned.
To reflect on what we say, what we believe, and how we show up.

That kind of self-awareness is not always comfortable.

But it matters.

Because growth often begins when we are willing to look honestly at ourselves, with curiosity rather than judgement 💜

Hello September… We’ve Been Waiting for You! 🍂🎓

September always feels like a fresh start at CARA Counselling Training.

Our summer break is over, the course materials are ready, the rooms are being prepared and we’re getting very excited to welcome our new and returning students.

For some of you, this will be the very beginning of your counselling journey.

For others, it will be the next step towards becoming a qualified counsellor or developing your existing skills.

There may be excitement, nerves and plenty of questions — all of which are completely normal.

Before long, you’ll be meeting your tutors, getting to know the people in your group and settling into the journey together. 💜

Here’s to new learning, new connections and everything September may bring.

Welcome September — we’re ready for you!

31st August… and the Summer Break Is Nearly Over 🎓

It’s the 31st of August, which means our summer break is almost at an end.

Little by little, we’re getting ourselves ready to return to CARA and welcome all our new students.

There are course materials to check, rooms to prepare, plans to finalise and lots of conversations about the year ahead.

We’re really looking forward to meeting everyone, putting faces to names and hearing what has brought each person to counselling training.

Starting a new course can feel exciting, nerve-racking and a little unknown — sometimes all at once.

But before long, you’ll be in the room, meeting your tutors and getting to know the other students who’ll be sharing the journey with you. 💜

September… we’re ready for you!

A Creative Day of Learning 🎨

I’m about to begin the final day of my training for the Advanced Certificate in Creative Arts Counselling.

I had originally planned to complete it last year, but life had other ideas, so I’ve had to wait until now.

Today I’ll be exploring different creative materials, including natural elements and film clay — something I’ve never used before! 🌿

I’m really looking forward to seeing what the day brings, what I learn and what I create along the way.

One of the things I love about this work is that we are always learning, developing and finding new ways to support people.

Here’s to trying something new! ✨

Safety First — in Bell Ringing and Counselling 🔔

Before you even touch a rope in a bell tower, you need to understand the essentials of safety.

Bells are incredibly heavy, so you certainly can’t just pull on a rope and hope for the best!
The same principle applies to counselling.

Counsellors work within clear ethical guidelines designed to keep everyone safe — both the counsellor and the client.

From the very beginning of your training, whether you are studying at Level 2, Level 3 or

Level 4, you will learn:

🔔 Why ethical practice matters
🔔 How professional boundaries keep people safe
🔔 What your responsibilities are as a counsellor
🔔 How to use ethical guidelines in real situations

Ethics are not simply rules to remember. They are the foundation of safe, responsible and professional counselling practice.

Our Level 2 Counselling Skills course is a great place to begin, and we still have some spaces available.

Where My Counselling Journey Began 🌿

Hi everyone! I’ve finally had a little time to slow down, enjoy this beautiful view and take a well-earned break. ☀️

It’s given me the chance to reflect on my counselling journey and where it all began — with my Level 2 Counselling Skills course.
Level 2 was such a transformative experience for me.

It taught me things I thought I already understood, particularly around empathy, active listening and what it really means to give another person your full attention.

It gave me an incredible foundation, both personally and professionally, and became the first step in a journey that has changed so much for me. 💜

You don’t need to know exactly where the journey will lead before you begin.

If you feel ready to develop your communication skills, learn more about yourself or explore a future in counselling, we still have spaces available on our Level 2 course.

Head over to our website to find out more and submit an application. 🎓

For now, the wind is picking up, so I’m going to enjoy the rest of the view!

ROBOT ICE CREAM AT BRIGHTON STATION 🤖🍦

Okay… this was definitely a first!

We were at Brighton Station and Neve spotted a robot making ice cream, so obviously we had to try it.

As you probably know by now, I have a bit of a thing for ice cream, so I was far too excited watching it make my very simple vanilla cone 😂🍦

Honestly, it was fascinating watching the whole thing from start to finish.

A lovely day, a little bit of fun, and apparently even ice cream has gone high-tech now!

Sometimes it’s the silly little moments that make the best memories 💜
