πŸ€” How many first aiders does your business actually need?

It's one of the questions we're asked most oftenβ€”and surprisingly, there's no simple legal formula.

Many people think it's based purely on the number of employees, but in reality it depends on factors such as:

βœ… The type of work you do
βœ… The risks within your workplace
βœ… Shift patterns and lone working
βœ… Visitors and contractors
βœ… Your First Aid Needs Assessment

Whether you employ 5 people or 500, understanding your responsibilities is an important part of keeping your team safe.

We've put together a practical guide explaining what UK employers should consider before booking first aid training.

πŸ‘Œ Ensuring our own skills are up to date is one thing, but furthering our own knowledge and upgrading skills is another.

As well as training happening across Yeovil, Taunton and Minehead, Ash is undertaking his Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care which not only goes deeper into the physiology and anatomy but also upgrades skills from Basic Life Support to Intermediate Life Support. Really looking forward to the rest of the week 😎

β˜€οΈ Working in the heat? A few simple precautions can make a big difference.

With the warmer weather continuing, it's important to remember that working in hot conditions isn't just uncomfortable - it can become a genuine health risk if the warning signs are ignored.

Whether you're working outdoors, in a warehouse, a kitchen or any warm environment, some simple steps can help keep you safe:

πŸ’§ Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
🌳 Take regular breaks in the shade or a cool area.
🧴 Wear suitable clothing and sunscreen where appropriate.
πŸ‘€ Look out for colleagues who may be struggling with the heat.

Knowing the early signs of heat exhaustion could prevent a much more serious medical emergency.

We've put together a practical guide with advice for both employers and employees.

β˜€οΈ This weekend we’re spending a very hot one attending Martock Rovers tournament. This is the third year we’ve attended and always enjoy watching the youngsters enjoying themselves.

Keep safe and shady 😎

We’ve even upgraded to a fridge so cold drinks for the team at the ready πŸ’ͺ

Would like to say a massive thank you to Ash and the team at Emerald First Aid Training

Little to the publics knowledge, our medical cover dropped out a week before the event. This meant we would have had to cancel, which would have been disastrous for ourselves and many others.

But Ash and his team did everything possible to get a crew together and make sure the show went ahead.

Thank you for providing an outstanding service & we look forward to working with you for many more years to come!

🌑️ Heat Exhaustion or Heatstroke – would you know the difference?

With the hot weather we've been experiencing recently, it's a question that's more important than ever.

Although the two conditions are linked, they're very different:

Heat Exhaustion πŸ’§
βœ” Heavy sweating
βœ” Feeling dizzy or weak
βœ” Headache
βœ” Nausea
➑ Usually improves with rest, fluids and cooling.

Heatstroke πŸš‘
❌ Confusion
❌ Loss of consciousness
❌ Seizures
❌ Very high body temperature
➑ This is a medical emergency. Call 999 immediately and begin cooling the person while waiting for help.

Understanding the difference could help you recognise when someone needs urgent medical attention.

We've put together a practical guide explaining the symptoms, first aid treatment and simple steps to help prevent heat-related illness during the warmer months.

❓ Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work – which course do you actually need?

It's one of the questions we're asked more than any other.

Many people assume the longer course is always the best option, while others believe the one-day course is enough for every workplace. The truth is, the right qualification depends on your workplace, your employees and the risks involved.

To help make things clearer, we've written a straightforward guide explaining:

βœ… The difference between Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) and First Aid at Work (FAW)

βœ… Which businesses each course is designed for

βœ… What each qualification covers

βœ… How to decide which course is right for your organisation

If you're responsible for first aid in your workplace, it's well worth a read.

Today and tomorrow we’ll be onsite at Yeovil Rugby Club for Yeovil Tattoo Fest.

Unfortunately they were let down with a week before the event by another well known provider, so we’re extremely pleased we’ve been able to pull several teams together to provide over 24 hours of coverage over the weekend. Live bands, kids bouncy castles and tattoos all over the place πŸ’‰

Glad the temperatures have dropped a little πŸ₯΅ but nevertheless ready and prepared!
