❓ Parent FAQ Friday
"How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?"
This is one of the most common questions we hear from parents.
While every child develops at their own pace, there are some signs that may indicate your child could benefit from a speech and language evaluation:
🗣️ Difficulty being understood by others
👂 Trouble following directions or understanding language
💬 Limited vocabulary compared to peers
🔄 Frequent frustration when trying to communicate
📚 Challenges with social communication or conversations
It's important to remember that a speech evaluation doesn't automatically mean therapy is needed. An evaluation simply helps identify your child's strengths and areas where they may benefit from additional support.
Early identification can make a significant difference in helping children build strong communication skills and confidence.
If you have concerns about your child's speech or language development, we're here to answer your questions and help guide the next steps.
Drop your questions below—we may feature them in a future FAQ Friday! 👇

At Imagine, our motto is connection over compliance. We strive to foster a drive to communicate by meeting children where they are and exploring the world in ways that are meaningful to them.

This game, A Yeti in my Spaghetti, is designed as a fine motor activity. But when one of my very expressive yet minimally verbal clients became curious about it, instead of redirecting him back to the “intended” way to play *or dismissing it as not an appropriate choice*, I paused and watched.

Before long, he had created his own game — lifting the spaghetti up and watching it fall down. So I joined him.

Within minutes, we had a beautiful interaction filled with laughter, engagement, joint attention, and opportunities to model core vocabulary like up and fall down. *He was motivated, having fun, and verbally communicating!*

Play and connection are such powerful foundations for building communicative drive in young children.

Many parents worry that learning more than one language may delay speech and/or language development — but research does not support that idea.
Bilingual children may:
• Mix languages
• Learn words across both languages
• Develop differently than monolingual peers

A true communication delay typically shows up across all languages the child uses.
Supporting both languages at home is encouraged 💬

Hot tip! Using baby sign or another sign language provides multi sensory input, can support language to develop and can be used to accompany multiple different languages.

Every child develops differently, but some signs may suggest a child could benefit from speech and language support.
Things we look for include:
• Limited vocabulary for age
• Relying mostly on gestures
• Difficulty combining words
The good news? Early intervention is powerful, and support can happen through play, routines, and everyday interaction 🤍
