Yesterday, 20 October, our MMCH team, together with members of our Board of Directors, visited the final resting place of the late Bishop Francis Chan to commemorate the anniversary of his passing on 20 October 1967. The visit was a moment of prayer, remembrance and heartfelt gratitude for the man whose vision laid the foundation for a mission that continues to bring hope and healing to countless lives.

As the first Bishop of Penang, Bishop Francis Chan envisioned a dedicated place where people with cancer could receive skilled and compassionate care closer to home. Inspired by his own experience with cancer, he sowed the seeds of what would become Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital. Since opening its doors on 21 February 1976, Mount Miriam has remained steadfast in its mission to provide compassionate and affordable cancer care to all, regardless of race, belief or financial circumstances. Today, we remember Bishop Francis Chan with deep gratitude, knowing that his legacy lives on in every life touched by this mission.
