Some journeys are measured not by years, but by the countless lives touched along the way. For Sister R. Kanageswari, affectionately known as Sister Kana, Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital has been far more than a workplace. It has been her second home, her family and her lifeโs calling.
When she first stepped into Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital in 1980 as a junior staff nurse, she was immediately drawn to the warmth of the sisters, the compassionate way patients were cared for and the peaceful, green surroundings. From that moment, she knew she had found a place where she truly belonged.
Over the next 46 years, Sister Kana dedicated herself wholeheartedly to serving others, throughout her journey, it was the simple yet meaningful encounters that stayed closest to her heart. The smiles of gratitude from patients and the quiet satisfaction of knowing she had made a difference in someoneโs life.
Even after her retirement, Sister Kana chose to continue serving as a Patient Educator. For her, Mount Miriam remains home. She believes the knowledge and experience she has gained over the years should continue to benefit others, helping patients gain better understanding in discovering their treatment journey and empowering them with awareness and hope.
