Kirtan comes from bhakti yoga — the path of devotion. Most people know yoga through postures and breathwork, but bhakti works differently: instead of stilling the mind through discipline, it uses the heart. Chanting, remembrance, honest expression. The idea is simple — when you’re fully absorbed in something bigger than yourself, the ego steps aside on its own. No forcing required.
That’s what the night looked like in practice. We chanted together. We explored the wisdom behind the tradition — what devotion actually means, and why singing has been a spiritual practice for thousands of years. We opened a discussion, and people shared honestly — some things that aren’t easy to say out loud. Then we closed the night the way we opened it: chanting.
No performance, no expectations. Bhakti doesn’t ask for a good voice or prior knowledge — sincerity is the only requirement.
