Today we say a heartfelt goodbye to our wonderful pou tuara, Molly, as she finishes her journey with us at Whaiora Services.

Molly has been an invaluable part of our team, bringing a tremendous depth of knowledge, wisdom and kai to her work every single day.
Her insight and expertise have guided many of us, and her impact on our community will be felt for a long time to come.

Earlier this week we were incredibly saddened and frustrated to hear that RespectEd Aotearoa has lost vital funding to continue their essential mahi educating our communities and preventing sexualised violence within Aotearoa.

PREVENTION WORKS. It changes cultures, protects our whānau, and stops harm before it even starts. Yet, it continues to be drastically underfunded. To see yet another amazing kaupapa in the Sexual Violence space stripped of its funding is a massive step backward for our country.

We also want to thank you and acknowledge you for the decade of tireless work you’ve poured into keeping people safe. Our communities need you, and you deserve so much better.

Hineraukatauri, the atua of music and harmony, flows through this work as a presence that calms, inspires and restores. She is depicted as a young wāhine, symbolising the subtle, transformative power of music and creativity.
Her form stands grounded and steady embodying wāhine ora, strength, resilience and the quiet power of presence.

The painting also reflects her connection to the pūtōrino, weaving wairua, sound and emotion into a space of reflection and renewal. This work speaks to transformation - the journey of turning breath into voice, and pain into expression. It honours the space where silence, sound, and wairua meet, reminding us that healing often begins within, and flows outward.

Long before she was a candidate for Ikaroa-Rāwhiti, she was and still is the backbone for us "little services" that keep Te Tairāwhiti moving. She doesn’t do it for the accolades or the title, she does it because her heart is for the people.
Her commitment to our community is nek level, and her unpaid time is a gift she gives freely to us all. She embodies Manaakitanga in it's purest form, always lifting others up and ensuring the small but vital mahi in our region is seen and supported.

We see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you for always standing in our corner. EVEN ON YR BIRTHDAY!!! Hari huritau xx
